"You're what?"

Lafayette smiled widely to his brother as they sat in the bay window in Thomas' room.

"I'm taking him to the stars spot," Thomas said hesitantly.

"Thomas, you've never shown that to anyone, not even mom," Lafayette said as his smile persisted.

"I showed it to you on the day you moved here."

"Yeah, I don't really count, do I?" Lafayette scoffed.

Thomas shrugged.

"I guess not."

"Just admit that this is a big deal."

"It's really not...I-I told James about it."

"But did you ever take him there?

"No. And this is still not a big deal."

"Fine, you telling him about it in the first place was a big deal. You showing it to him is a gigantic deal."

Lafayette showed the seriousness of the matter with hand gestures.

"So you're saying I shouldn't take him?" Thomas was looking at his hands again.

Lafayette looked him dead in the eye.

"No, I'm saying you should take him there, get married and have children."

"Laf!"

He put his hands up in surrender.

"Okay sure, the last part can wait a few days; but I think you should take him."

Thomas looked down and then up again.

"Yes, as friends."

"No."

"As roommates?"

"No?"

"What then?"

"As potential love interests."

"Who'd wanna write about our crap lives?"

"I'd read it."

"Laf!"

"Look, all I'm saying is that you should give it a shot because I think it's gonna end well."

Thomas sunk into the large pillow behind him and closed his eyes.

"Admit it's a big deal," Lafayette said, poking his nose.

"No."

"It is."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"It's a big deal."

"No."

"Admit it."

"No."

"Can you say something other than no?"

"No."

"Thomas."

"No."

"Thomas.

"Fine, it's a big deal and I like him and I'm terrified but still excited."

Thomas sat back up.

"There you go," Lafayette spoke and smiled.

There was silence but not necessarily the uncomfortable kind; not the comfortable one either but somewhere in between. Some little spot where they could stand to be around each other but be terrified of being alone.

"I'm scared Laf," Thomas managed to whisper after a while of complete silence.

Lafayette smiled a sad smile.

"It's gonna be okay.

Thomas heard a small knock on his door, he recognized it to be the same light knock he'd heard the night before.

He excitedly walked towards the door and opened it to reveal a small man with a smile close to reaching his ears.

"I'm ready," he whispered.

Thomas looked at the clock behind him which told him the time was 2 am.

He smiled back and hesitantly grabbed the bag he'd prepared earlier.

"Let's go."
