"Okay, so what I'd like to do first today is a little game called get to know me. I'd like you all to stand up one at a time and tell everyone your name and one thing about yourself. I'll go first, and I'll pick someone to go next and so on. Does everyone understand?" She says loudly, looking around the classroom.
Everyone nods eagerly, except for the girl that had arrived to her class room late. She frowns slightly, but dismisses it, letting it go to the back of her head.
"Awesome, so, I'm miss Jauregui and this is my first year of teaching" say says, smiling. She watched with amusement as her students murmur between their selfs, she had a good idea what they were talking about.
She gestures to the student sat opposite her desk, letting them know it was there turn to talk.
Camila watches with wide eyes as she watches students stand up, say their name and something about themselves before sitting down again. She knew nobody would pick her, and half of her was relieved about that, but the other half of her felt upset. She knew nobody liked her, she knew she had no one to consider a friend. Without wanting to, she felt tears burn in her eyes. She tried to hold them back, but one somehow managed to escape and run down her small cheek.
She just wished she had someone, anyone, to call a friend. Someone she could talk to, someone that would always be there for her, someone that would hug her without immediately going to wash their hands, afraid they'd caught some sort of disease from her. She just wanted someone to be there for her, was that too much to ask for?
"Karla?"
She jumped and rushed to wipe the tears that had fallen down her cheeks, she didn't want anyone to know she had been crying. Looking up, she saw her teacher was looking at her with a raised eyebrow. She didn't seem angry though, which made her sigh with relief.
"It's your turn, god, weren't you listening at all Karla?"
Dinah. They were friends once, best friends, and Camila really missed that. They were fine until she had admitted she now lived in an orphanage, and instead of the hug she'd expected to get, she got a disgusted look and Dinah ran away like was contagious. That had hurt. A lot.
"That's enough Dinah. Karla, would you like to stand up and tell everyone a fact about yourself?" Lauren asked, making sure to keep her tone soft. She had saw the girl cry earlier, and she didn't want to be too harsh on her when she already seemed close to tears again.
Camila shook her head quickly and looked down at her lap, no, she didn't want to. She really really didn't want to. That would just give everyone another excuse to pick on her, and there was already enough on that list.
She heard some of the kids laugh at her, and she shrunk down lower into her seat as she once again fought off her tears. She hated that she cried so easily.
Lauren nodded understandably. She didn't necessarily want to let her off while everyone else had to do it, but she wasn't going to force her to do something that made her uncomfortable.
"That's okay, you don't have to. Okay, everyone can pack up their things and head of to their first lesson, enjoy yourselves and I'll see you back here, second period for math" she called loudly, watching as everyone eagerly stood up and rushed out of her classroom before she could utter another word.
Karla was last, and was just getting up from her desk while everyone else had left the room. She grabbed the sheets of paper parents were required to sign and called the small girl over.
