About ten minutes into the drive, Camila felt her tummy flip lightly. She looked up from her game with an alarmed look on her face, but soon the feeling went away; causing her to look back down. It happened again about a minute later, but this time, she felt her mouth water slightly.
She recognised this feeling all too well.
Spitting her pacifier out, (the favourited item falling somewhere on the floor) she brings her hands to her mouth as if she was planning to catch whatever spilled out. She gags lightly, casing her body to jolt roughly as she unknowingly lets out a quiet whimper.
She doesn't like this, she really really doesn't like this
Normani glances concernedly between Camila and Lauren, a frown on her face. Was she okay?
"Miss Lauren?" She says loudly when Camila gags again, her eyes full of unshed tears.
Lauren glances back at Normani through the review mirror and goes to speak, but she stops when she see's spots a pale Camila holding her hands to her face. Immediately knowing what the matter was, she quickly pulls over and gets out of the car, jogging round to the back. She rips the door open and unbuckles her car seat, lifting her out of her seat just in time for projectile vomit to come rushing her mouth.
"Shh, it's okay baby" she soothes, glancing back at Normani quickly to make sure she was okay. Once she was sure she was, she brings her attention back the trembly in her arms. She coos to her softly, wanting to keep her as calm and reassured as she possibly could.
She knew the girl didn't do well with throwing up.
"Are you done?" She asks after a few minutes, running her hand up and down the small girls onesie clad back. She was met with a whimper and a hesitant nod of the head, so she gently eases the girl up into a standing position, keeping her hands under the girls arms just in case she lost her balance and fell.
The girls face was pale and sweaty, her cheeks bright red, showing Lauren that she definitely has a high fever. She grabs the hair tie off of her wrist and pulls Camila's hair back into a ponytail to keep it out of her face, before unzipping her onesie. She pulls it down to her waist and ties it off, leaving her in a thin tank top. She gently lifts Camila back into her seat with little protest from the small girl, and she buckles her back up, placing a soft kiss on her burning, sweaty head. Quietly closing the car door behind her, Lauren gets back into the drivers side, a heavy sigh escaping her lips.
"Are you okay?"
Lauren turns round in her seat to face a Normani, and she sends the girl a small smile, "I'm okay sweetheart, are you?" She asks as she turns back round in her seat and starts the car.
"Yeah, I don't think Camila is though" Normani says quietly, glancing to the now sleep small girl.
Lauren glances back for a second, "I know, but we'll get her sorted in no time"she reassures as she puts the indicator on, turning the car into the opposite lane she was driving on earlier.
Looks like its time to go home.
After what feels like forever, Lauren finally pulls up outside her apartment complex. The drive back had been long and tiring, as every time Camila stirred or made a sound, Lauren held her breath and slowed down the car, silently begging the small girl to stay asleep so she didn't have to clean up a puke covered car if the disgusting substance happened to appear again.
The usual ten minute journey back took about twenty minutes instead.
Running a hand through her hair, Lauren gets out of her car and opens Normani's door on her way round to Camila's side. She gently unbuckles the small girl and eases her arms out of the holes, lifting her from the car seat and into her arms. She situates Camila on her front and uses her forearms to support her so she wouldn't fall.
