Marlene went to check out some baby cribs before going to pay the light bill. She found one for

only sixty dollars. She paid for it and had it delivered to their one bedroom apartment. Marlene

was so proud of herself because she had enough money to do what Dan asked of her.

Marlene spent most of the day out shopping and Dan met the delivery man with the crib.

"Hi I have a delivery for a Marlene Spencer."

"Oh yeah, well you can just take it back."

"Sorry Sir, we have a no-return-policy for used furniture."

Dan became furious; he felt Marlene had deliberately disobeyed him.

Meanwhile, after doing all she needed to do, Marlene caught a cab home she saw the delivery

man pulling off as the cab pulled up, and thought she had missed the delivery. Marlene jumped

out the cab hoping to catch the driver, because she believed Dan was still at work and there was

no one there to take in the crib.

"Wow, now I have to go back to the store and get the crib, and I don't have enough money, what am I going to do?" Marlene said to her self while pulling her packages out of the cab. Dan snuck

up behind her and distracted her with a startling look; Marlene grabbed her bags and stepped

back.

"Hi Dan, what are you doing home so early? You frighten me a little I didn't know you were home.

"No, I don't think you did. Marlene, you went behind my back and just did what you wanted to do."

"But Dan I...," Marlene could not get out another word before Dan jack-slapped her in the street,

bags flew out of Marlene's hands and she hit the ground hard. The cab driver was so angry for

the way Dan hit her, he wanted to knock him out.
