Jess took 3 steps until she was face to face with the door the nurse told her Colby was in. She raised her hand to knock and then lowered it, was this a good idea? Probably not.
She raised it and knocked, taking a deep breath, then hearing Colby call for her to come in, she cleared her throat before she opened the door
Colby looked up and his eyes widened
"Jess?" he asked, not believing what he was seeing
"Hey," Jess whispered, closing the door and biting her lip, it was already so awkward
"You came," Colby commented smiling
"Yeah, I did." Jess said, returning his smile
"I feel like I owe you an apology, and if it makes you feel better, I broke up with Zahra." Colby said
"Why would that make me feel better?" Jess asked
"Cuz I couldn't stop thinking about you." Colby said, smiling as he looked down

"I just felt like Zahra was there at the wrong place at the wrong time, I was missing you so much and she was just there to take my mind off you. It was wrong I know, but Jess, I still love you, and I always will." Colby said
"Colby, I-" Jess didn't get to finish, because the doctor walked in and over to Colby
"You must be Jessica, very nice to meet you, I'm Dr. Peters, I'll be performing Mr. Lopez's surgery tomorrow," the doctor introduced, Jess just smiled at him
"How are you feeling Colby?" the doctor asked, Colby looked up at him

"Better now that Jess is here," he admitted, smiling at the doctor
"Glad to hear it, so I just want to run over a few guidelines for your surgery tomorrow." the doctor said, pulling out his clipboard and beginning to talk
Jess began thinking, if Colby was telling the truth, and that he still loved her, and broke up with Zahra, then Jess could forgive him. It wasn't like she still was angry, truth be told, she believed she forgave him the moment she found out he was cheating, she had already forgiven him, this was just a formality.
"Will you be here tomorrow when I wake up?" Colby asked after the doctor left
Jess couldn't resist the puppy dog look he shot at her and she smiled
"Always." she replied and perhaps Colby caught the double meaning behind her words or he was just happy to see her, but the smile she was gifted with, split his face in two and warmed the cold hospital room, and just like that, she knew things were gonna be alright.
