"And you're gonna be right there when I wake up, right?" Colby asked, trying to reassure himself

Jess looked at him and smiled, running her hand on his head 

"Yeah, I'll be right here, you're gonna be fine okay?" Jess said, petting his hair 

"Yeah. I love you," Colby said, when the doctor walked in 

Jess smiled sadly

"I love you too angel," Jess said, Colby looked up at her with wide brown eyes and she knew what he wanted so she leaned down and pressed her lips to his, nearly gasping at the familiarity and warmth of the kiss, and just like that, all was forgiven. 

"Time to go, Mr. Lopez," The doctor said to Colby 

"Love you Jess," Colby said as they wheeled him out and to get him prepped before surgery 

"Love you too angel," She repeated and smiled, walking into the waiting room 

It was 10 minutes before Colby was wheeled back in front of her toward the surgery room and he looked at her 

"Love you," Colby repeated for the 3rd time, now Jess was sure he was scared and she smiled and blew him a kiss and he was wheeled away with a small smile on his lips 

Jess could've cried as she watched Colby look at the surgery door as the nurse angled the bed

She knew he was scared and she wished she could have shielded him from the pain and fright, but she couldn't she could just pray he'd be fine, she knew he was heartbroken too, which troubled her 

It was 4 hours later when Jess had been waiting for the surgery to be over and she'd written a song

They wheeled Colby back in the room and just like Jess promised, she stayed with him and waited with him, she sat by his bed and held his hands and an hour later, he woke up 

"Hey." he said, with lidded eyes, looking at Jess with a sleepy smile 

"Hi," She said, handing him his glasses and a bottle of water and kissing his forehead and smiling at him 

"You stayed." Colby commented, looking down 

"Of course I did," Jess replied 

"I'm sorry, about everything. I honestly need someone to fly to Davenport to look after me, and I have no one available at the moment and I just don't know what to do." Colby said 

"I'll stay with you," Jess said, smiling when Colby's face lit up and he grinned  

"Really?" Colby asked, still smiling 

"Yeah, my angel needs me." She told him, rubbing her thumb over his cheek 

"Thank you Jess." he said

"Your welcome," She said, kissing his cheek 

"Get some rest now and you'll be out of here soon enough, I'll be right here, I'm not leaving, I promise." she said smiling, Colby nodded, trusting her was something that came easy to him
