I stay awake for as long as I can, feeling sick to my stomach. I decide to take a walk down to the medical wing to see if there's anything a doctor can do.
There's a doctor at the main desk who I've seen before, so I walk up to him. "What's wrong Miss Charlie?" He asks.
"I've been feeling sick all day, and I can't get to sleep."
"Let's put you in a room." He says, eyebrows furrowed. He has me lay down in a bed, and he puts an IV in to give me some fluids. It hurts. "Maybe it has to do with food. What did you eat for dinner?"
"A salad, a roll, and some juice." I say, curling up into a ball slightly. "My stomach wasn't feeling good, so I didn't eat much." He runs his gloved hands over my thighs after pulling my pajama pants up.
"You're bruised."
"I run into stuff easily. I'm a total klutz. Do you think I have a stomach bug or something? Because the Queen said that the Prince had one too."
"I am reluctant to believe that it's a stomach bug because you've been sick before. Can I take a blood sample?"
"Of course." I say, and wince as he sticks the needle in an starts drawing out blood. I've had it done once before, but I didn't feel as weak then. He gives me some orange juice, and I drink that, feeling a bit better.
"This will take a couple days to come back in." He says. "But, I don't think not eating enough vegetables and fruit is enough. You seem very fit and healthy. I don't know what you seem to have a deficiency of. This will hopefully tell us." He smiles at me, and hands me a blanket.
I curl up under it and stare at the wall. Eventually, an uneasy sleep comes because I'm exhausted.
When I wake up, the sun is already high in the sky. Breakfast is probably long gone, and I'm only a little bit hungry. I have a headache, and feel like I have a fever. The doctor comes in and looks surprised to see me awake. "Hungry?"
"Ice. Ice sounds good." I tell him.
"No. You need something nutritious. I'll have them send something up." I moan and clutch my stomach. He nods at me and then exits the room.
A moan escapes my lips, and a memory floats to the front of my mind.
