It was the start of Autumn, signaling a shift in the weather as red, orange, and yellow leaves drifted in the wind. The days started to cool down and the nights shortened. For you, it meant a big change.
It has been over six years since you moved to Korea. Your dad was a translator for different ambassadors and was the reason why you moved so often. Your family moved many times growing up so you ended up speaking several languages. English is your first because you were born in the United States. You spoke fluently English, Spanish, German, Danish, Italian, Japanese, and Korean, and you often got them mixed up if you weren't paying attention. Six years was the longest you had stayed in one country and you planned on staying in South Korea permanently to continue working. You finally build a life here despite it not being your home country. You loved what you did for a living, getting to work for girl idol groups, and you didn't want to give up.
However, you were about to switch over to the dark side. You had been close friends with Hyeong Ung since you both had gone to the same university together. He was a few years older than you but he was nice enough to help you out when you first started since then you kept in touch getting lunch every now and then together. A few weeks ago he asked you for a huge favor. He is the current dance instructor for famous idol group Got7. But couldn't be their instructor much longer. So naturally, he recommended you to JYP Entertainment to gradually take his place and of course he didn't tell you that they were on board with you taking over. Dream come true?
Not really. You had never been an instructor or an all boy group before and you were totally fine with that. You were well aware of all the antics boy groups got into and you didn't want to be apart of that. Plus you were already working with JYP's Wonder Girls. But since Hyeong already accepted the position for you, and it was too late to say no.
Fortunately, the Wonder Girls were taking a break so you didn't have to worry and about quitting on them.
Today was finally the day where you would meet Got7. It had been a few weeks since you were told about the change. You were going to their rehearsal to watch, your goal was to change as little as possible from what Hyeong was doing. So you decided to meet up with him before and grab lunch. He picked a place that was pretty close to the dance studio Got7 practiced at.
"Hello Hyungie" you liked to tease him with nicknames. He smiled nodding slightly to you as you walked to an open table. "So what am I in store for today? I don't want to be pranked or anything by them." You joke but we're also totally serious. "It just a normal practice of their older songs, they can be a handful though if you let their reins too loose Soomin" Hyeong warned. The waiter came by and you both ordered a light meal since you were going to be dancing later. "Their new album doesn't come out for a few months that gives me a lot of time to create their routines, why aren't you doing it?" You asked. "I just can't, starting my new job is too stressful and I have a feeling you would be better choreographing this style of music. It's much softer and rhythmic definitely not my style"
After Hyeong said that it went silent for a few moments as the waiter brought out your food. "Is there anyone, in particular, I should keep my eye on?" You knew who Got7 was and each of their personalities that they show on camera but this would be the first time you would see how they normally act with the cameras down. "Well they're all loud, Jackson especially but he's one of the best dancers Youngjae and Yugyeom can be smart asses. BamBam's really high energy. Hmm, JB and Mark are the ones to talk to if somethings up since they're the oldest and Jinyoung is really nice but easily annoyed" That's what you expecting him to say. That's the impression you got from watching some of their videos.
After you both ate and paid for the meal you walked together down the street to JYP building. You were both dressed in the clothes you would rehearse in. You wore a loose light pink off the shoulder t-shirt with a shiny black sports bra, black leggings that had cute cut outs along the sides of your legs, and bright white vans with cute Autumn themed socks. You always liked to wear socks that went with every occasion. You had a dark gray overcoat on keeping you warm. Suddenly Hyeong looked at you as you both walked "Just letting you know they might ask you to show off some dance moves" Hyeong laughed as you both walked into the building. "I thought I was just observing today?" You snickered "Just warning you haha... you can show them some contemporary dance and blow their minds" Hyeong laughed.
When you and Hyeong walked into the studio you were surprised to see that none of the members were stretching or warming up beforehand. 'Weren't they worried about hurting themselves during rehearsal?' You thought. You wanted to say something but thought otherwise not wanted to start off on the wrong foot by yelling at them the second you see them.
Suddenly JB and the others noticed Hyeong and quickly stood up. All seven members were in a straight line smiling. "I told you your new choreographer was coming today you should at least try to look professional" Hyeong frowned. "We're very sorry" JB bowed lowering his head. The rest followed repeating after JB. "This is Soomin, today she's just watching to get a feel for you as a team" Hyeong turned to you and smiled. You looked at all the members and in your head, they were all extremely handsome, but Yugyeom, in particular, caught your eye. You thought his beauty mark near his eye was really cute.
Suddenly JB announced "Hello we are... GOT7!" and all of them made a seven with their hand and bowed in unison. "Hello, nice to finally meet you all. I've been at JYP for a few years working with the Wonder Girls but you're the first all guy group I will work with." You bowed trying to be as nice as possible. "What accent is that?" Mark asked suddenly. "Uhh I was born in the United States but I've lived in many different countries". You bowed again before apologizing "I speak a lot of different languages so I'm sorry if get mixed up" you joked. "Woah that's so cool!" Jackson yelled in English, which made you smile. "How many languages do you speak?" Bambam asked. "Seven" all the members oohed in surprise. "Well, I speak four!" Jackson announced proudly, making everyone laugh causing the rest of the members to start side conversations.
Once each member introduced themselves they started to stretch. They all seem very nice and welcoming. You had worried that they might be upset at you for taking Hyeong's job, but they seemed very understanding. After they stretched Hyeong started working with the members going through more difficult moves for one of their old routines from Flight Log; Arrival. As you watched you noticed Yugyeom glancing over at you on several occasions. He smirked at you as he was dancing.
After about an hour Hyeong gave the members a fifteen-minute break so they could rest. Bambam started to do a vlive with Jinyoung. You kinda just stood with Hyeong until Jackson and Yugyeom came over to you. "Since you get to see us dance you gotta show us your moves!" Jackson said in English. You laughed, you thought Hyeong was joking earlier but he wasn't kidding. "Please, we want to see how cool you are" Yugyeom made a puppy dog face before laughing in embarrassment. The other members chimed in agreeing with Jackson and Yugyeom.
"Fine but only a little bit your break is almost up" You set your purse down and took off your outer coat and your socks and shoes. You had really small dainty feet so you didn't care about anyone seeing them. Everyone cleared the way for you, all standing against the wall by the door. You decided instead of doing something contemporary you wanted to show off your acrobatic skills. You chass into a center split leap then immediately went into an aerial then slid into the left splits. For a moment you felt kinda embarrassed but when all seven guys started yelling and cheering you thought it was funny. You stood up brushing your hands against your leggings.
"Haha, ok break time is over I don't want to stop you from getting better" You grabbed your purse and stood back against the wall. "That was really... amazing" Mark commented. Even Hyeong looked surprised to you. "Ok go over Never Ever one more time then we'll move on" Hyeong announced as he started playing the song. You watched and noticed how fluid all the members danced together. You really wanted to make sure when you choreographed their new routines you kept that. Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed every time Yugyeom was in the center of the form he would glance at you. It was almost like a smirk, it was kinda cute.
The rest of the rehearsal was pretty mellow except every time Yugyeom glanced at you. You couldn't tell what he was thinking. You weren't sure if he didn't like you or if it was his way of trying to flirt. You started to gather up your stuff, when your stomach started to growl, it had been several hours since you had lunch with Hyeong and you had zero desire to make something at home. Suddenly JB jumped towards you, "Do you have plans after this?" JB asked you. "Uh no why?" you picked up your purse putting it over your shoulder. "Want to go get barbecue with us? Got7 wants to get to know our new instructor better". You thought for a moment, 'Maybe it would be a good idea to know everyone on a better level, it'll help figure out strengths for choreography' you reasoned with yourself. Even though it was basically just an excuse to go out for food. "Sure if I'm not intruding" You smiled at JB before giving a thumbs up to the other members who were cautiously waiting a few meters behind him. "Trust me you're not" JB walked over to his things.
