Connor Alexander Carter

Part One of Recorded Interview

Date: January 21, 2017

Duration: 185 Minutes

Location: Frederick County Sheriff's Office

No. of Pages: 25

Conducted by Officers Brown and Waters

Officer Waters: Alright Connor, here's the deal. We tried to grant your request. We tried really hard. But at the end of the day, your wife, she doesn't want to see you. She point blank refuses to come down here or even to speak with you on the phone. We tried appealing to her for Anna's sake, but even that didn't work. She says she has no idea what you're capable of anymore, and doesn't believe that her speaking to you will change your plans for Anna whatsoever. She says if you've decided to let Anna die, then you are going to do that and same if you've decided to let Anna live, and her talking to you won't change that.

Connor Carter: Just call her and let me try. Pretend it's you again and then put me on the phone. She has to give me a chance. Even two minutes. I just need to tell her I'm sorry. I need to hear her voice.

Officer Brown: Look Connor, I'm sorry. Trust me, for Anna's sake I wish she'd speak with you. But there's nothing we can do. We can't force her. And we won't. If we push her too far she might refuse to testify at trial. We can't risk losing our case.

Connor Carter: Well then I guess we're at a standstill here aren't we. Hanging in the balance.

Officer Brown: We tried to get your request. Can't you just tell us where Anna is now?

Connor Carter: No, I don't think I can. I don't believe that you've tried hard enough.

Officer Brown: What else can we do?

Connor Carter: I don't know, get creative. Isn't your job to think outside of the box?

Officer Brown: No our job is to find Anna and put you behind bars.

Connor Carter: I believe in this case that is synonymous with thinking outside of the box.

[DOOR OPENS]

Unidentified Speaker: She'll do it! She said she'll listen to whatever he has to say. On the phone. She says she will say hello so he knows she's there but she isn't saying another word.

Officer Brown: Excellent! This is wonderful. Where is the phone?

Unidentified Speaker: Carl is getting her on the cell phone so we can bring it in here.

Officer Brown: Perfect.

[PAUSE]

Unidentified Speaker: Thanks Carl, here you go Officer Brown.

Officer Brown: Thank you Smith. You are free to go now.

[DOOR CLOSES]

Officer Brown: We'll keep it on speakerphone.

Connor Carter: Jade?

Jade Carter: Hello

Connor Carter: Oh Jade. I'm so sorry. I am so so so sorry. I know you won't believe this, and you have every reason not to but every minute I was gone I thought about you. I tried so hard to resist the urge to help Anna. I love you so much. I wanted to be the husband you thought I was. I even was that husband for a long time. I was so good. I thought maybe I could, maybe I had changed. But then you encouraged me to volunteer. And it all fell apart.
