Chapter Twenty:: Smells Like Teen Spirit
S3E6

I wake up the next morning and get dressed. I walk over to my mirror to fix my hair an find a black velvet box. I open it and find a diamond bracelet and a note. I take out the note and read it.

My darling Natalia,
You are correct. I'm a monster. I hate that I make you think that and that now I believe it. I'm sorry. Forgive me, sweetheart. I'm leaving Mystic Falls, but I'll be back soon. Please take the bracelet as a sign of my forgiveness.

I sigh and look at the bracelet. I slip the bracelet on and grab my bag. I walk downstairs and see Damon. "Have a good day." he says and places a kiss on my cheek. "I'll try." I say and do the same. I walk out the door, get in my car, and drive to the school.

I see Caroline, Elena, and Bonnie. I walk over to them and join them. "Hello, girls." I say to them. "Ugh, finally. I thought I would have to go a whole school day without my bestie." Caroline says as she places her arm around my shoulder. She looks at my bracelet and says, "Cute bracelet. Where did you get it?" she asks me. "I've had it for a while." I lie to her. She nods and smiles. "Here we are. Senior year." she says. "Anyone else think it should feel slightly more empowering?" Bonnie asks. "Okay. So prank night was a bust. But we are accepting it, and we are moving on." Caroline says. "You're right. I mean, why should I let the fact that my boyfriend is seeing the ghost of his dead girlfriends hinder this experience?" Bonnie asks. "Yes! And why should I let the fact that my boyfriend was turned into a hybrid by Ali's crazy hybrid ex-man put a damper on an otherwise fabulous day." Caroline says and I laugh. "Today's our anniversary. Technically, Stefan and I met on the first day of school last year." Elena says. "Yeah. You win." I say. "Are you sure you want to be here?" Bonnie asks her. "I have to be here. I have to put it behind me. New year. New life." Elena says and walks into the school. We look at each other then follow her inside.

I'm standing at my locker when my phone rings. It's Damon.

(N&D for the phone convo)
N: Hello, Damon. What do you want?
D: We have a new housemate.
N: What do you mean?
D: Barbie Klaus. Seems that Klaus left his little sister here and now she's staying with us.
N: Great.
D: I also know that your bracelet is from Klaus.
N: Anyway. I'm not even going to ask about Stefan.
D: Good idea. He owes us a new Persian rug. Anyway I should probably call Elena.
N: Alright. Talk to you later, Dame.
D: Okay. Have a good day. (he hangs up)

Once I close my locker Caroline is beside me with a flyer. "What about it?" I ask. "You're going!" she says excitedly. "But Care." "No buts! You're going and that's final." she says sternly and I sigh. "Fine." As we stand there Tyler joins us. He kisses Caroline and I turn away. "Happy first day!" he says and gives me a hug. I notice a small spot on his shirt. "Ty, is that blood?" I ask him. "Oh my God!" Caroline says as she pulls him into the bathroom and I follow. "What's going on!?" he asks. "Vampire 101...dont where your breakfast to school!" Caroline tells him as I check the stalls. "Chill out. It was just a blood bag." he says calmly. "From where?" I ask. "Rebekah hooked me up." he says. "Rebekah? And what are you talking to her for?" I ask. "Klaus told her to keep a watch on me. Protect his new asset." he tells me. I sigh and run a hand through my hair. "Of course. Nik." I mumble as Caroline and Tyler bicker back and forth. "I'm just gonna go." I say and walk out. As I walk out I run into Elena and, oh wait, I know that hero hair anywhere. Stefan. Why the hell is he here? "Ali! There you are!" Elena says quickly telling me to stay with her. "Oh, hey Elena." I say as I stand next to her and look at Stefan. "Stefan. What are you doing here?" I ask. "What do you mean? I'm going back to school like you Ali. Go Timberwolves!" he says. "What? Why?" Elena asks. "Klaus wants me to keep an eye on you and Natalie. I'm just doing what I'm told." he says. "We're going to be late." I say and pull Elena with me as I start to walk away. Stefan grabs my hand and tries to pull it away from Elena's but I grab his arm and twist it. "Don't forget, Steffy. I'm stronger and older. Don't test me." I say. He grabs me and pushes me against the lockers. I then throw him into the wall and grab Elena's hand and walk to class. As we're walking Stefan shows up in front of us. He grabs Elena. "Let go of me, Stefan!" Elena tells him. "Elena, do you think I want to be a senior for the 100th time? No. But if I don't have a choice in the matter, then neither do you." he tells her. "I said let go of me!" Elena tells him. I see Ric appear behind Elena. "Let her go." he tells Stefan. Stefan grabs him and pushes him against the lockers. "Stefan, don't!" Elena shouts. "You're not gonna want to get in my way. Okay Ric? I will see you three in history." he says and walks away. "Ugh!" I groan and punch the lockers.
