Chapter Thirty-Six:: The Rager
S4E3

I spent yesterday doing mainly nothing. It was just a day of Damon and Caroline filling me in on things that happened including the fact that there is a hunter in town. Amazing, by the way. Also there was a funeral that I didn't see the need to attend, but now I'm here. Helping Carol Lockwood bring her hybrid son home.

"Are you sure you don't mind helping?" Carol asks me. "Of course not, Mayor." I say with a smile. "Not like I need a babysitter, mom." Tyler says. "Oh, shush, Lockwood." I say and he nudges me with his shoulder.

Carol, Tyler, and I walk into the house. Two men are standing in the foyer and I notice Tyler immediately becomes suspicious. "Who the hell are you two?" Tyler asks, but his mom answers. "Tyler, it's okay. They're here for your protection." she says. "More deputies?" he asks incredulously. Klaus enters the room from the parlor with another hybrid following behind him. "Not exactly." he says and I roll my eyes. "They're hybrids." I say with a sigh. Klaus turns to Tyler and says, "I was halfway to Chicago when I heard you were attacked. I had hoped to leave Mystic Falls for good, but duty calls." Klaus steals a glance at me, but I don't pay attention to him. "Nice to know you care." Tyler says sarcastically. "I don't. I should have killed you for the little stunt you and your friends pulled. Stopping my heart, leaving me in a coffin to rot." Klaus says and I roll my eyes again. "Yeah, well you used my body as an escape hatch, then kissed Ali which by the way pissed my girlfriend off until she found out it was you. So, maybe we're even." Tyler says. "Not even close. But, you hybrids are a dying breed. I can't make more of you, and I won't have anyone taking liberties with the ones I have left." Klaus begins to walk off. "Consider them your new bodyguards." He says and points at the three hybrids in the room then walks out. "Dick." I whisper and Tyler laughs.

I'm walking down the stairs and see Carol talking to a brown haired girl. Carol notices my presence and smiles. I return the smile as the girl turns around and shock takes over my face. The girl looks at me and smiles. "Hayley." I breath out and flash in front of her. A smile makes its way to my face as she says, "Nattie." "I'll leave you girls alone." Carol says and walks out the room as Hayley pulls me into a bone crushing hug. "I've missed you so much." she says. "Hales, can't breathe." I gasp out. She let's go and gives me a smile. "Sorry. I just really missed you." "Well, I missed you too, Wolfy" I say with a smirk. She punches my shoulder and says, "Don't call me that, Vampy." "Hey! It's only fair, Wolfy." I say and place my arm across her shoulder. "Let me guess. You're here to see Tyler, not me?" I ask. "I'm sorry. Just Ty lied to me. He didn't tell me he lived in this big ass mansion!" she says as I take her to the room Tyler is in. "Where did he say he lived?" I ask. "A trailer park in Florida." she answers and I laugh. "Stop. It's not funny!" she says and pushes me away. "Oh, come on, Wolfy. You love me." I say with a huge smile. "Yeah, I do." she says with an identical smile.

When Hayley and I enter the room Tyler is lying on the couch, tossing a football in the air from hand to hand. "So, this is where you've been hiding, huh?" she asks him. Tyler turns around and sees us, so he gets up. "Hayley?!" he asks, surprise lacing his voice. "Hey, Lockwolf!" she says. "Ha, Lockwolf. I like that." I say and they hug each other tightly for a long moment. When she pulls away, she cups his neck in her hands before she shoves him roughly in the chest. "Ass! I thought Klaus killed you." she says then punches my arm hardly. "You two, Vampy." she says and I sigh. "I should have called." Tyler says and I nod. "From your trailer park in Florida? You liar!" She laughs and looks around as she sits on a desk. I sit down on the armrest of the couch. "You're totally loaded!" she says and Tyler says nothing. "I chained you up all over the Appalachians. I talked you through every turn. I helped you break the sire bond. You could have told me your real story." she tells him and I look between them. "I didn't want anybody to follow me back." he says and Hayley frowns at him in confusion. "Werewolves weren't safe around Klaus, and you shouldn't be here, either. His hybrids are all over this house, and so is he." I clarify for her as I move to sit down on the couch. Hayley nods then stands to face Tyler. "I know." she tells me then looks back at Tyler. "One of his hybrids is with a pack I ran with. He called me and told me that he was coming to protect a guy named Tyler, and I thought, tsk, what are the chances?" she asks. They stare at each other for a moment without saying anything. What's going on with them? "Well, the least you could do is pour me some fancy, rich people scotch." Hayley says, breaking the silence. "Sure! Absolutely." Tyler says then walks over to the bar to pour drinks, and Hayley falls down onto the couch beside me.
