Chapter Thirty-Eight:: The Killer
S4E5

I walk out the bathroom as my phone buzzes. I walk over to it and see who it is. I roll my eyes at the name.

Santa Klaus🎅
We have a problem.

"Seriously?!" I groan and walk into Stefan's room.

Stefan and I are on the phone with Klaus.

(N,S,&K for phone convo)

S: How the hell did Connor escape?
K: I'd blame my numbing incompetence, but pointing fingers isn't going to help me, you're going to help me.
N: Well, he could be anywhere now.
K: Think, you two. He took the hybrid's head which means he wants werewolf toxin.
N: Which means he plans to stay in Mystic Falls to kill vampires.
K: Which is a pity, as I'm half the world away digging up a dead hunter, you'll have no access to my blood and therefore, the antidote. Nevertheless, his tattoo is our only map to the cure, so your task is quite simple; find him, catch him, and above all, keep him alive. He's no good to us dead.
S: Damon's been looking everywhere for him, if they cross paths....
K: You'll need to keep Damon in check.
N: Be a lot easier if we could just tell him the truth.
K: You trust Damon with the cure? I imagine he prefers Elena the way she is.
S: Nice try, Klaus. But we trust Damon a hell of a lot more than we trust you.
K: And I trust no one. Which is why my sister is lying daggered in a box. The more who find out about the cure, the more who will go after it. Nations have gone to war over less. You mark my words, tell one soul and I will throw the hunter's sword in the Mediterranean and we can end this quest right now. Am I understood?

Stefan says nothing, but hangs up. "Well, that was fun." I say and Stefan rolls his eyes at me. "Come on, Al. We need to go to Tyler's." Stefan says and I nod. "Alright, let's do this." I say.

"So, we each take a different entrance; hit them at the same time." Stefan and I hear Damon say as we enter the Lockwood Mansion.

Stefan and I walk into the room. Elena gets up and walks over to him. "Stefan!" Elena says and I walk towards Tyler. "Where the hell have you two been?" he asks us while Stefan reaches his arm out towards Elena. She embraces him and he embraces her back. "Coming up with a plan." I say. "Yeah, we have a plan. The plan is I'm gonna rip Connor's heart out and I'm going to feed it to him." Damon says and I shake my head. "That's not a plan. We need to be careful. Connor has Jeremy and who knows how many other hostages." I say. "Hence, the open heart surgery." Damon states and I roll my eyes. "Damon's right. Connor's strong, but he's not going to be able to take all of us." Elena says and I look towards Tyler. "I called in the hybrids to help too." he says and Caroline enters the room. "My mom has squad cars blocking the streets. They're saying it's a faulty gas main. We're good to go." Caroline says as she stands beside me. "Good, great. No cops, no witnesses, no reason to wait around." Damon states simply. "All right, hold on, you're not all going." Stefan says and looks at Caroline, Elena, and I. "He shot me like nine times. If we're killing him, I want in." Tyler says. "He's got Jeremy. I'm going." Elena states and I look at Stefan. "Listen, nobody is going anywhere until I figure out what we're walking into." Stefan states and I see an annoyed expression make its way onto Damon's face. "Until you figure it out? Is that where you've been all morning? Out buying bossy pants?" Damon asks him. "This guy is known for setting traps, right? We'd be pretty dumb to walk into one, especially if he has werewolf venom." I say backing Stefan up. "Does he?" Elena asks. "He's had it before." Stefan says. Elena appears to be rethinking the plan while Damon is clearly angry.
"Fine. Fine, if you want to take some time to do recon, you get one hour. But we're gonna need some extra help. So, where the hell's the Wicked Witch of the West?" Damon asks and I roll my eyes at the nickname for Bonnie. "She can't do magic." Caroline says and I nod. "Really? Well, call her, tell her Jeremy's life is in danger; maybe that will bring her out of retirement." Damon says and walks out of the room, hitting Stefan with his shoulder on the way out.
