Antisocial shrimp

"Not appropriate Mr Everett!" My social studies teacher, Mr Montgomery yelled to the back of the class where Lucas Everett, Chris Samuels, Nathan Karamakof and Alex Williamson were sitting.

Lucas held his hands up in mock surrender, "hey, if our new topic is sex, then we may as well cover all the bases. Have you covered all the bases yet, shrimp?"

I froze up and stared straight ahead. Was he talking to me? Well, probably since 'shrimp' had been my nickname since middle school. I wasn't sure if it was because they didn't know my name and didn't care to learn it, because I was small and shy, or both. (A/N I know what shrimp actually means but little Blakely doesn't yet, this is what she thinks okkkkk)

"Lucas" Mr Montgomery said in a threateningly low voice.
"What? She's always ahead of us all, I'm just curious if she's ahead of us in the area of sex too. Hey, if you are, shrimpy, can I borrow your notes?"

I shook my head and tried to remember what Mr Montgomery had asked before Lucas commented about having sexual intercourse with a woman's breasts. Those weren't the words he used at all, but I think you can imagine.

Most of the class laughed while I just stared straight ahead at the board.
"That's enough, everyone!" Mr Montgomery sighed, "does anyone else have a more appropriate contribution to the topic? How has sex changed with societies. What are the differences now days?"

"People are younger now when they start having sex?" Meghan Weiler suggested.
"Yes, so age" Mr Montgomery nodded writing that down on the board.
"What about, how many people one person will have sex with? I mean, back in the day people wouldn't really sleep with anyone unless it was their husband, wife or even just their partner?" Another girl suggested.

"Yeah, now days girls are fucking slags. They sleep with anyone and anything" Nathan Karamakof called out.
I rolled my eyes and bit my tongue so I wouldn't say anything. I really wanted to put the sexist pig in his place but I knew I would regret it later on.

"No, I think they're just passing the love around. Sharing is caring, right Adren?" Lucas smirked. The whole class except me laughed again. Adren Parks was dating Chris, but everyone knew that she had cheated on him with his best friend Nathen religiously.
"Lucas, shut up" Adren snapped.
"Ooh feisty, is she like that in bed Chris...or Nathen? Which one of you has had her the most times?"

Chris and Nathen were Lucas' best friends but I wasn't surprised that he would humiliate them in front of the whole class like it was nothing, those boys were like frienemies. They slept with each other's girlfriends, humiliated each other on the daily and lied to and about each other 24/7.

Nathen laughed but Chris did not seem impressed at all.
"That's enough class! Seen as we can't have an appropriate class discussion on this topic, then I guess we'll move on to text book work. Turn to page 136 and summarize the entire text" Mr Montgomery announced.

Everyone groaned and slowly pulled their notebooks out, I on the other hand was beaming. I grabbed my notebook with a smile and turned to the page. I hated class discussions, it was the only part of school that I hated. Everyone yelled out and I was usually a target because people noticed that I hated the class discussions.
When it came to text book work however, I was in my element.

The bell rang a half hour later. Id already finished summarizing the textbook work so I was writing down the notes Mr Montgomery had left on the board.
I quickly packed my things away so I could be first out of class. Being so small was a massive struggle when everyone else in your class was about 6 feet tall. If I went out at the same time as them I would without a doubt be on the floor.

I rushed out of the room and went straight to my locker. I had lunch next which meant I'd get to see the only person that liked me at this school. My best friend Emma McDorman.

I got my lunch then found Emma sitting at our usual spot, the back left corner.
"Salad? Really?" Emma laughed raising an eyebrow.
I rolled my eyes and sat down with my tray, "you should try it, give your body a break from sugar and carbs" I joked nodding at her giant bowl of pasta and large juice.
"Hey, you can be healthy if you want, some of us are just trying to find happiness".
"Food gives you happiness?"
"Doesn't it give you happiness?"
"True" I smiled digging my fork into my salad.

"So how was socials?"
"The one class I have with all the popular, sexist and mean morons all at once? Oh it was great, thanks for asking" I smiled sarcastically.
"What was the topic?"
"Sex".
"Say no more" Emma smiled apologetically.
"Oh! I brought the notes for english!" I reached into my bag and pulled out the binder full of revision notes I'd made, "here you go".

"Oh my gosh, thank you!" Emma sighed gratefully taking the notes.
"No worries. Hey, why were you away in English on Monday?"
"My grandad" she said slowly.
"Oh...is he ok?"
"Not really, the surgery didn't go as well as they were hoping" Emma explained sadly.
"I'm so sorry Em".
"Me too" she sighed.

I held her hand across the table and gave her an apologetic smile.
"I told you they were together" a high pitched irritating voice laughed from behind me.
I turned around to see Adren, her two minions Mellisa and Karen, and the four most annoying boys that seemed to be everywhere she was.

"Except with those two, it's not hot" Alex laughed.
"It's kind of gross" Nathen agreed.
"So who's on top?" Adren smiled in mock curiosity.
"Definitely not the shrimp. I'm sure she's low key freaky, but not that freaky" Lucas laughed
"So is it you garden gnome?" Adren asked Emma. They'd called her that for as long as they'd called me shrimp. Emma had red hair and freckles, but I thought her hair was really nice and the freckles were cute. I wish I'd said that to them but I just couldn't. I never could.

I would never have the right amount of confidence to stand up for myself or my best friend and I hated myself for it. Why couldn't I be more like Adren? Wait scratch that, I never wanted to be anything like Adren. Why couldn't I have Adrens confidence?

"She can't speak. Maybe you've got her lost for words Adren" Melissa cracked.
"Ooh, yeah, watch out Shrimp, your girlfriend seems keen on Adren" Karen laughed.
"In her dreams...wait, no, not even then" Adren laughed.
"Aw, come on girls. Don't be so mean" Chris smiled, "why don't we let them enjoy their lunch...and each other".

"Whatever" Adren mumbled, "Tell your grandad I say hi garden gnome.. he's still alive right?"
"Cold Adren" Lucas laughed lightly shaking his head.
I felt my blood begin to boil, I wanted to say something to her so bad but I didn't know what. I looked at Emma who was staring at her food. Her eyes were watery and I could tell she was trying not to cry.

"Can you just leave us alone?" I said quietly. That was all I could think of. What kind of best friend was I???
Adren gasped, "it speaks!"
"Come on Adren, that's enough" Chris said leading his girlfriend away. Of all of them he was the most human, and he once took photos of the girls in the change room and sent them to everyone so that was saying something about the rest of them.
