Chapter 15

Sliding the knife into the belt strapped around my thigh, I let my red floor length dress fall back to the ground. Even though it was just a ball I wanted to be sure that I could protect myself and my boys if something was going to go down.

Heading down the stairs, I saw Jason looking at himself in the mirror as he struggled to tie his bow tie.

"I thought someone like you would have mastered this by now," I teased, moving his hands so that I could fix it for him. Straightening it, I stepped back taking a moment to admire him in a suit. "Not bad for an asshole,"

He laughed. "I could say the same about you," I rolled my eyes, but before I could reply the rest of the boys filed into the foyer. All of them dressed handsomely in their suits.

"Limos here!" Tyson yelled stepping in the front door. From behind I could see two sleek black limos park up by the front of the house.

"Lets go have some fun,"

I stayed back for a few moments with Jason as the rest of the boys enetered into the ball.

"You sure you want to do this?" I asked looking up to his obviously nervous face. He sent me an uneasy smile.

"It's a bit of a public place to try and take me down, I'm sure I'll be fine." He replied, though I knew that he was lying.

"Don't worry, I've got your back," I told him completely honestly. Acting as if he was any other boy from my house, I slide my arm into his. He needed support and right now I couldn't afford to have him out of sight. Next to me was the safest place he could be.

As we walked up the stairs to the building, thousands of cameras snapped our picture. I did my best to fake a happy smile. Acting as if I was just your normal person here to bid for something in the auction. I couldn't help but think how Damian didn't do things by half. I had been to some pretty big events in my life but this topped them all.

When we entered into the ball room, I was shocked to see so many men in black suits. A couple dozen women in black gowns accompanied different men, but the ratio of men to women was very different.

"I didn't know really this was a black only event," I whispered pausing at the top of the balcony, looking  out over at everyone. Only now did I realise that I was the only one in the room wearing colour. "I'm going to stand out like crazy," I moaned quietly. He looked down at me, a smirk appearing on his face. "You'd stand out regardless of what you were wearing,"

Caught off guard by his compliment I let him lead me down the stair case into the room. Noticing how everyone paused to look at us.

"They are all steering at you," he whispered.

"No they aren't," I shook my head. "They are all watching you."

And it was true, no matter where we went that night, eyes followed us. Whether we were drinking at the bar, or talking to the boys, it was like we couldn't get a second of privacy. I was glad that Bentley had decided not to come tonight. I don't know how he would of coped me hanging onto Jason the whole night, not that it bothered me, but right now I didn't want anymore drama.

Jason and I stayed firmly by each others side throughout the night. Whether he thought he was doing it for me or I was doing it for him, it made me more comfortable. The last thing I needed was Damien breaking his promise and causing a scene with Jason, especially if I wasn't there to defend him.

The night went along pretty peaceful. I didn't get much of a chance to see Damien, the only time he came into sight was when the auctions happened. He spoke for a few minutes talking about the great cause the money was going to. I couldn't help but think that he was talking a whole heap of rubbish. My thoughts were confirmed when Jason rolled his eyes at someones comment. The money was most definitely going straight back to the gang.

After the auctions had finished the band came out to fill the room with music. Couples took the floor each swaying away to the music.

"Should we dance?" Tyson asked, creeping up next to me. I smiled and let him lead me on to the dance floor. Making sure to keep an eye on Jason. I gave him the look the begged him to behave himself.

We danced for a few songs before a tap on Tysons shoulder paused us.

"May I cut in?" Damien asked. Tyson looked at me rigidly, not sure what he should do. I gave him a nod, letting him know that it was all okay. I couldn't help but smile internally when I saw all the boys put their drinks down and set their eyes on both of us.

They always had my back.

"Are you enjoying tonight Alexis?' He asked moving me around the dance floor confidently. Being this close to him made me realise how much just like his son he looked. Though his features were alot harsher you could easily see the resemblance. Especially as they were both wearing black.

"I would enjoy it more, if I knew why you really invited me here." I replied honestly, trying to cut the point. He laughed.

"Never one to beat around the bush." He paused for a second, spinning me around in a circle before pulling me back to his body. "Have you thought more about my offer?"

"I already told you, it isn't going to happen."

"My gang could ruin you." He replied bluntly. I rolled my eyes.

"If you really thought that you wouldn't waste your time asking to join us. You know we would be a contender to take you down if we wanted."

"I have contacts all over the world, contacts you wouldn't dream of having." He spoke quietly but yet his words filled my ears. It was as if nothing else mattered.

"And you don't think I do. If this conversations going to be all about what the other has or doesn't have, we can end it now. You either tell me the real reason why you are here or you can bugger off."

"I want my son."

"To kill him?" I asked.

"To deal with him. It is none of your business."

"He's part of my gang, its my business." I raised my voice, using all the authority I could.

He chuckled, giving me a sinister look. "We both know he isn't, you can't be sworn into another, whilst you are already in one. Even you know there isn't a way around that"

He had a point. But there was a way around it. One way that I had never thought of using. One way I didn't even wanna thing of using.

"I will say this once Damien, and only once. Leave him alone and we will go on in peace. I won't let you get him." I didn't know why I was defending someone I didn't even really know. Someone that I didn't really care about a few days ago. But yet here I was, doing what I always did. Thinking before I spoke. Getting myself even further into the hole.

"Don't start a battle you can't win little one."

"I won't, I'll start a war." I replied fiercely. Dropping his hands I stepped away from him and stormed back to my boys. I saw a few of Damiens men pushing through the crowd towards us.

"Boys its time to go." I said, grabbing Jason's hand as he glared at his father. "Jason let me help you."

And with that he snapped out of his trance and looked down at me. He let me drag him back towards the front door. The boys following closely behind.
