Chapter Eighteen:

(Jason's POV)

"She's hiding something from us, isn't she?" Tyson asked as we sat on the porch, watch Lexi throw a knife at the target, before correcting the technique of a couple of the boys. I could sense him watch me, trying to read my reaction.

"What makes you say that?" I asked, not surprised at all that he had picked up something was wrong.

For the last few days, the plan had been finalised, or so the boys thought. But Lexi and I had a different plan, one that the boys weren't apart of. You see the boys plan was to go in and take them all out. Take enough of them out until they surrendered. And you see that plan made sense, but Lexi didn't want to go through with it.

Lexi didn't want to risk so many people get hurt. She didn't want to let her boys do that. I understood her thinking, she didn't want there to be a chance that any of them could die, it would tear her world apart.

"I've known that girl for most of her life, I know when she's keeping something from me." He paused for a moment. "She is probably trying to protect us, the only thing I don't get is why your important enough to lie to us. I didn't think that you were that good."

I couldn't help but smile a little. Knowing I couldn't tell him the truth, I instead opted for a small and easy reply. "Just trust me." Was all I said as I stood up and headed towards the group that were crowding Lexi now. She demonstrated how to throw the knife properly once again before giving them a high five when they did it correctly.

When she noticed me, she peeled away from the group. I gently grabbed her arm, trying to ignore it as she tried to move away from me and pulled her away from the house to the shed that sat on the edge of lawn. When I say shed, it was far from it, the exterior was made of timber, but the inside was completely revamped. Springy floor covered half of the room, a dozen bodies stood together there doing their best to take each other down.

I lead her to a room off the side, closing the door behind us both.

"What do you want Jason?" She asked, placing her hands on her hips. It was obvious she was still slightly weird with me, ever since we woke up next to eachother on the floor.

After talk for hours, somehow we had fallen asleep next to each other.

"Tyson knows your hiding something from him." I pointed out. She rolled her eyes.

"Of course he does, he's not stupid. You didn't tell him anything did you?" It was my turn to roll my eyes at her.

"Have a little faith. I just want you to double check you really don't want to tell them. We could use them you know." I pointed out.

"I'm not putting them in more danger then I need too. It's just you and me on this one, is that a problem?" I could feel she was getting antsy with being stuck in a tiny room with me. Stepping slightly closer, I watched as she tried to manoeuvre herself away from me. I frowned slightly.

"Did I do something wrong?" I asked. I had thought that we had somehow gotten closer over our late night chat, so I was truly confused with the way she was acting.

"What do you mean?" She replied, trying to act like she had no clue.

"Ever since I stayed in your room, you haven't been able to be alone with me, let alone have a conversation that wasn't about the plan."

She glanced down at her watch, before looking at me with an annoyed expression. "Look Jason this isn't the time for this chat, nothing is wrong. Now I've got things to do can I please get back to work?'

As she moved towards the door I stepped in front of her, blocking her only exit. "Talk to me Alexis,"

"Piss off Jason. Nothing is wrong," she stated, but we both knew what she was saying was a lie. "Please get out of my road."

She went to push me out of the way, but her hand froze inches away from touching me. She couldn't be serious could she?

I grabbed her hand and pushed it onto my chest. "Was this because of happened the other night?"

"Jason, nothing happened. I'm sorry if I haven't been my usually chirper self but I have crap to do. And making sure your feelings aren't hurt isn't the top on my priority list." She snapped.

Without a second hesitation she grabbed the collar of my shirt and yanked me out of the way before storming past me. I quickly steadied myself on the wall before looking out after her.

What the hell was going on with her?

Jesus, this women was bipolar.

(Lexi's POV)

I stormed out of the room and headed back into the house. There was no way I could tell him why I was angry, why I didn't want him to be near me. Because he wouldn't understand. He wouldn't understand why I was upset.

That night had been great. Up there on the mountain we had learnt a lot about each other but that night was like a chance for us to become friends. We joked and teased, eventually getting to the point where we acted like we weren't about to go to war but instead like we were just two people talking with a friend.

It wasn't until he was just drifting asleep, when he phone had beeped right next to him. I wasn't going to look but the light flashed in front of me causing me turn my attention towards it.

She's smart. She's going to be useful in this – continue to keep her close – K

I could only think that they were talking about me. The girl that was going to be "useful". I know it probably didn't mean anything bad, but I couldn't help but feel like I was being played in some sort of way. Like the friendship I had thought was building that night was all based on lies. On him using me for something.

"You alright sweets?" Gaby asked breaking me from my made dash, she was standing on the stairs looking down at me. Amidst the chaos of all of this she had been something of a saving grace. She had been feeing every person that came into the house and mending those that were injured. I think over the last few days I had told Tyson what a winner he had bagged more than I had in their entire relationship.

"You've always been straight with me, so I have a question." She nodded, urging me to carry on. "Can we trust your brother?"

She took a deep breath, tilting her head slightly as she studied my face before slightly nodding. "My brother maybe an ass, but when he came to my house telling me about the trouble he was in, I had never seen him so worked up and worried in his life. Damon is a serious threat. You are Jason's only hope. So yes you can trust him."

I turned and took a seat down on the stairs, moving over slightly so she could sit next to me. She wrapped her arm around my shoulder. "Why don't you think you can trust him?"

Before I knew what I was doing I was telling her about the text. About the way that I was feeling like something was off, like I was being used. When I finished talking she took a moment to process before she looked at me, her left eyebrow raised slightly.

"Don't tell me you care about him?" I let out a laugh.

"I care about my boys, and he is a threat to them,"

"mmmm, I think your lying. I think you might actually be slightly enjoying the relationship your building with him," She replied, always one to call it as she saw it. Even if she was completely off the mark with this comment.

"Don't' be kidding yourself. Your brothers an ass, the only relationship I want with him is a short one."

I saw her begin to speak, but intending to stop the conversation I spring up onto my feet before dashing upstairs. Being isolated in this house was making her believe thins that were totally incorrect. There was no way, in this world or the next that I cared enough about Jason that I could be hurt if he was using me.

No way.

But even as I thought it I could sense the little voice inside my head telling me that, that comment wasn't the complete truth.
