75 days before

Miles parents went away two days ago.

This was normal for Miles, though. His parents went away leaving Miles to stay with me. Only this time, instead of taking Miles, they took his little sister Eleanor. Eleanor is only a 3 years old, and it was kind of a shock when his mother fell pregnant with her 3 years ago.

Miles always stayed at my house whenever his parents go away for a week, as I'm like his own sister. His words, not mine. But, I liked it when Miles stayed at mine. The only time when I didn't was the time Miles stole my towel from the bathroom, which didn't end up too well. I guess you could say it ended badly-for him.

This time, Miles was in the shower. I sat crossed legged of my bed, playing a few  games on my phone. While it was keeping me entertained, Miles phone buzzed on my desk. I at first ignored it, but when it continued to go off, it was starting to drive me insane.

I hopped up from my bed, leaving my phone unlocked.

Miles message tone was one of the iPhone's ringtones, and he of course had to pick the one that annoyed the crap out of you so you'd get up an answer it.

By the time I'd picked up his phone, another message popped up on the screen. I at first decided to hand Miles his phone when a certain message caught my eye.

Fern Andrews: I mean, I like you. But, not that way

Fern Andrews: I'm sorry, Miles.

I put the phone down, until another came through.

Fern Andrews: Miles?

Anger boiled inside me, and it wasn't what Fern had said to Miles, it was the fact that he hadn't told me about his feelings towards her. I get it, she's pretty and smart, but why didn't he tell me?

I dropped Miles phone when I heard the bedroom door click open. Miles was dressed in a grey top and some jeans. To be totally honest, he didn't look that bad.

"Was that my phone?" He questioned.

"Um, yeah," I admitted, biting my lip. "It was going off and I just about to give it to you but you scared the crap out of me and I sorta dropped it."

I handed Miles his phone as soon as I retrieved it, and he took it casually. He pressed the home button, but his face fell. He locked it not a minute later, setting it back on the table.

"Did you read my messages, Tay?" He quizzed me.

"I didn't mean to," I reassure "Your phone was going crazy, I couldn't have missed the messages even if I tried."

All Miles did was nod, and as he sat down beside me I could sense what Fern said killed him.

"Are you okay, Miles?" I asked. Miles shrugged.

"She doesn't like me back, so what?" He said too soon, leaning backwards onto his back to stare up at the ceiling. I did the same, resting my hands on my stomach.

"I don't blame you, if you're upset about it." I said. "I mean, it's happened to me. And there's been many times for you to say you were going to beat the guy up, so maybe it's my turn to do the same for you."

Miles was silent. I knew Miles when I say he was truly heartbroken. If he's so bummed out about Fern Andrews letting his hopes down, then he's heartbroken. In the sixteen years we've been friends, he's only had one girlfriend. But she dumped him when she moved away, and he was most likely more heartbroken then than now, but Miles is my best friend and I hate seeing him like this.

I placed my hand on his arm, then out of nowhere it slid down to his hand where I intertwined our fingers. A warm fuzzy feeling overlapped me. We've only held hands once or twice, and it meant sympathy towards one of us.

"Tay," Miles said "Come here."

I scooted closer, where he wrapped his arms around me in a friendly hug. I mean, I think it's a friendly hug.

"I'll be fine," Miles reassured me. "Don't worry about me"

My eyes trained up to his, where he stared back down at me. A small smile tugged at his lips.

"You know I can't help but worry about you. You know that, right?"

"Of course I do." His eyes twinkled, a grin appearing on his face.
