Chapter 51 - Cheers

Shannon looked at the clock every hour throughout the rest of the night and as soon as it was daylight she crept out of bed and went to look out of her window.

"So did you get any sleep last night then?" said a sleepy Kailan

Shannon turned around to see him still in bed but looking at her.

"Not really" she smiled

"You thinking too much about stuff?" he asked, sitting up

"Always" she smiled at him

"We can't change what's happening Shan" he sighed

"Yeah I know" she replied

"But as long as we both agree that this isn't the end for us then it's all ok right" he said as he got out of bed and came over to hug her

"Fancy a walk?" she asked him

"I fancy a surf" he replied "As we're up so early"

"Go on then" she laughed

They quickly got dressed and crept out of the house, picking up a coffee on the way. They walked down to the beach and over to the lifeguard tower where Kerrbox was unlocking.

"Oh don't tell me I've got my shifts wrong" he moaned

"No, don't worry mate, we were just up early so thought we'd come down while it's quiet" Kailan replied

"Well it's definitely a quiet one this morning" smiled Kerrbox

"You brought your board today?" asked Kailan

"Is that your subtle way of asking to borrow it then" he laughed

"You know it" Kailan laughed

"One hour" Kerrbox said sternly

"You're a ledge" Kailan said, slapping Kerrbox on the arm and grabbing the surfboard.

Kailan and Shannon walked down towards the water and they passed Maxi who was putting the flags out

"Lucky you" said Maxi "Those waves look good this morning"

"You wanna give it another go?" Kailan asked Shannon

Shannon shook her head "I'll just sit here and watch you"

"I'll keep her company" said Maxi as Shannon sat down on the sand and he sat next to her

"Won't be long" said Kailan and he kissed Shannon on the cheek and ran off into the water

"You're up and about early" said Maxi

"Couldn't sleep" She replied

"Any particular reason?" he asked

Shannon just shrugged and Maxi hung his arm across her shoulders and leant his head against hers

"Stay" he whispered

Shannon tried to swallow the lump that had formed in her throat and blink away the tears that were filling her eyes

"Sorry" Maxi said quietly "You don't need me adding extra pressure to everything"

"Believe me Maxi, if I could extend my visit then I would do" she sighed "We were talking about it the other day but my visa runs out the day we fly back so...."
