the door leading up from the basement swung open and max jumped at the sudden movement.
"if you're gonna sneak off to make out you're gonna have to be more slick about it. you're lucky i was the first to volunteer to find you."
mike rolled his eyes at dustin and started walking to his room upstairs.
"where are you going?" max yelled after him.
"to get you one of nancy's shirts. it'll be more believable," her boyfriend replied from the top of the stairwell.
he ran back down with a black tshirt that said "the clash" across the top. max eyed the shirt and mike shrugged.
"think she got it with jonathan or something. hurry up," he nagged before heading back to the basement with dustin.
"where were you guys?" jane asked as the boys reentered the room.
"getting snacks," mike lied absentmindedly.
"um, did you forget them?" will asked suspiciously.
"huh?"
"you okay mike?" jane asked, her voice thick with concern.
"uh, y-yeah. um. forgot the snacks. upstairs. be right back," he stammered before running back into the kitchen.
