senior prom came sooner than expected. max and jane went dress shopping the day after their sleepover, and a week from then was the prom.
the gym of hawkins high school was decorated beautifully. purple, black, and silver streamers covered the walls, with glitter and balloons scattered across the floor.
mike caught his girlfriend's eye before tugging his right ear. max returned the gesture discreetly.
"i'll be right back," the redhead told her friend and jane nodded.
max walked into the hallway. she closed the gym door behind her and hugged her boyfriend.
mike pulled her in for a hug and she closed her eyes as she lay her head on his chest.
"i love you, maxine mayfield."
"shut up. i love you too," she replied, making her boyfriend laugh.
the redhead pulled away to look up at his starry eyes when he leaned down to kiss her.
after a few seconds he pulled away and smiled at her.
"we should probably head back before they realize we're gone," mike suggested.
max nodded and walked back into the gym, joining her friends on the dance floor, and getting lost in the magic of senior prom.
