I know that you and I
For a while have not seen each other
But I still hold you
Close to my caring heart.
But I have found another
Who seems to be another you.
He is another that I love
And he reminds me much
Of our many years together.
I am not looking to replace you,
But rather looking to have you back.
But now it is he that holds
My attention so close.
I have begun to love him
And my promise of forever
Has extended to him.
He is like you in many a way.
He does not see the goodness
I can sense within him.
He believes himself
To be a terrible beast
But I see the truth,
The real prince beneath,
Just as I have,
Always with you.
Now that we are older,
No longer do you need me
As much as you once did.
But now this other that I have found
He is more broken, more hurt,
And needs my love
For he cannot find it in his heart
To use any of his own.
So now as I uphold
My promise of forever to you
There is another
Whom I make this promise to.
I hope you will not be dismayed,
I wish only happiness upon you,
And among the promise of forever,
I remind you there is room
For much more than just two.
