cheater {part 1} | gilbert blythe

y/n dreaded school. it was boring, mr. phillips sucks, and something was wrong. gilbert, y/n's boyfriend, wasn't speaking to her.

on the first day, y/n walked up to him and pecked him on the cheek. he glanced at her, then went back to talking to his friends.

on the second day, she waved at him across the room, and he rolled his eyes. she was hurt, but she pushed the hurt aside, because she loves him.

now it's been a week, and the couple has gone from pda all the time, to staying twenty feet away from each other at all times. y/n was crushed.

but today was the last straw. y/n clambered into the schoolhouse. as she was taking off her coat, she glanced at gilbert, and her heart dropped.

gilbert was sitting a little to close to ruby. their noses were almost touching, and he was giving her the look that he used to give y/n. y/n choked back a sob when she saw him gently brush a strand of her hair out of her face. she blushed and giggled, and that's when  y/n had enough.

"i see you found a new girlfriend," she said coldly as she walked up to her now-ex-boyfriend and ruby. gilbert jumped back and looked at y/n. he stood up quickly.

"i can explain...it's not what it looks like," he tried to explain. y/n scoffed.

"it looked like you were about to kiss her," she managed to say. a tear fell down her cheek. gilbert moves to brush it off her cheek, but she stepped back.

"how could you?" y/n choked out. she turned away from him.

"i-i'm sorry," he whispered. y/n turned to look him in the eye.

"no, you're not. what is wrong with you?! i'm your girlfriend, and you've ignored me all week! and now i see you about to make out with ruby gillis! you make me sick, gilbert blythe. we are over," you said calmly and ran out of the schoolhouse. gilbert's cries were echoing outside.

•a few weeks later•
it's been a few weeks since y/n broke up with gilbert, and she was a mess. she barely left the house, only for school. and when school was done for the day, she would pick up her stuff and leave. avoid eye contact with everyone, so no one could see how broken she was.

little did she know, gilbert was torn up too. he still loves y/n, but he was growing tired of her. but when he saw the look on her face when she saw him with ruby, he realized he made a mistake. his heart broke when he saw the look in her eye. it was as if the light had finally left her eyes. he realized what he did. he was a monster.

y/n slipped through the school door and sat in the back row next to prissy. she used to sit at the desk across from gilbert, but prissy offered for her to sit in the back. y/n eagerly accepted.

as y/n sat at her desk, she saw ruby sitting close to gilbert. she was laughing, and he was smiling at her. they looked happy, and y/n tried not to care. she laid her head on the desk, praying for class to start.

why wasn't she enough for him?

thoughts rushed through her head, and she couldn't focus on class.

"y/n y/l/n, are you even listening?" mr. phillips asked rudely. y/n nodded, still in a daze.

"i-i'm sorry, i don't feel too well," y/n said shakily. mr. phillips scoffed.

"go home now. i cant be getting sick," mr. phillips groaned. y/n nodded and stood up. she grabbed her stuff, gave a soft smile to prissy, and quickly left.

when she stepped outside, her heartbeat quickened, and her head started spinning. she choked out a sob, and walked home.

it's over, it's all over.
