it's been a year and a month since you moved to new york. new york's nice, but there was something—someone—missing. jerry baynard.
you thought about him every single day. you wondered if he looks different. you wondered if he was still sad about you leaving. you wondered if he found a girl. maybe anne...?
anyways, you tried to keep your mind off avonlea for the most part. it was hard, but you tried your best.
you didn't find friends in new york, and it felt as if you were all alone. your mother told you that new york is a great fit for your family, but you never bought it.
another month passed.
your mother called you into the living room. she looked pretty happy.
"mother, what's going on?" you asked tentatively. she shot you a grin.
"honey, we have enough money to live where we want now. we're going home," she replied. happy tears filled your eyes. you looked from your mother to your father.
"to avonlea?" you asked. your father nodded.
"we're leaving within the month," he replied. you ran up and embraced them.
crazy thoughts kept passing through your brain, but you didn't stop them this time. you were going home. home. and we're not just talking about a place, we're talking about a person...
as the month passed, you and your family packed up all your belongings. it was a lot of work, because your family had been fortunate enough to gain a steady income in new york. you had more belongings than you've ever had in your life. it felt good, knowing that you had something that showed you were there, something that held memories for you.
but those memories didn't matter anymore. you were going home.

it's moving day! your family had all your belongings in your wagon(s), and you set off for canada.
it was a long, tiring ride, but it provided much scope for the imagination. you wondered what it'd be like to see everyone again. anne, diana, gilbert, and jerry. you were going to see your favorite person!!
you reached the port, and transferred your boxes of stuff to a ship. that ship was going to set sail for prince edwards island in t minus thirty minutes!
as you sat in the deck, wind whipping your hair in crazy directions, you breathed in the salty air. it smelled like home.
the boat docked, and your father and some workers unloaded your stuff. they put it on another wagon. you were off on another long journey.
it would be many hours before you'd be home, so you decided to get some rest. you looked up at the stars above, finally remembering how beautiful these nights were. you used to sit with jerry and stargaze for hours. maybe you'd be able to do that again...
your father shook you awake. standing before you was an old white house. your house. it still looked just as beautiful as you left it, with its blue shutters and red door. it was unusual, but that's what you loved about it. it was different, and it was yours.
you ran inside, taking in every little detail. then it hit you. you needed to see jerry.
"mother!!" you called and ran back outside. she tilted her head.
"yes, dear?"
"i need to see him. i need to see jerry," you said quickly. she laughed.
"go, i'll help your father unpack," she replied with a chuckle. you hugged her and ran down the dirt path leading to the cuthbert's residence.
upon your arrival, you saw matthew outside. he stared for a second, then waved, as if you never left. you ran up to the barn door and slowly peered in.
there he was. he didn't change a bit. okay, maybe a little bit. he was noticeably taller, and his hair was darker. he looked older, more handsome (if that was even a possibility). as if he knew someone was thinking about him, he turned around.
the look in his eyes was pure shock. he dropped his pitchfork, and slowly walked up to you. he touched your shoulder, as if he was checking to see if you were real. you laughed.
"i'm back, mon soleil," you mused. he laughed and wrapped his arms around you. his head rested in the crook of your neck. you both stayed like that for a long time. it was the best moment of your life.
he lifted his head. "ma cherie," he whispered. "you're here." his eyes were glassy. he still didn't let go of you yet.
"i am here. and i'm here to stay. i love you jerry, and i regretted not telling you that every single day i was in new york."
he didn't hesitate. he pulled you in quick and pressed his lips to yours. you cupped his cheek, and his arms tightened around your waist. when you pulled away, he stared into your eyes.
"i love you too. and you are not allowed to leave anymore. you can't leave me alone like that ever again," he joked. you chuckled, then rested your head on his chest.
"wouldn't plan on it."
