Charms was a spirited lesson today, simply due to the fact that Nikolai grew impatient and pestered that Ellie was able to silence her frog and raven both on either the first or second try. Ticked off that Ellie had been able to accomplish something before him and gain ten points for Gryffindor, Nikolai pushed his chair to the side and ignored her for the rest of the lesson, much to her satisfaction.

After they finished eating lunch -- Ellie having to eat two slices of apple and an orange with some pumpkin juice -- most of the fifth-years decided to cram into one of the classrooms due to the atrocious downpour of rain outside. It was a decent sized classroom, and Ellie and the Slytherin group were able to seize one of the corners to sit at. They were talking about things that were of no interest to her, so she couldn't help but scan the room for Silas, perhaps to give him her usual sad puppy dog eyes in the hopes that he'll come around.

She had actually began to write a letter to him. It wasn't near finished, but she had written a few words. She couldn't seize him or get the chance to talk in person, and it bothered her greatly that she hadn't even thought of owling him. The redhead had been much too preoccupied with other things swirling around her brain that the thought of a handwritten letter to her best friend hadn't even popped up.

There was a rumble. Ellie couldn't tell whether it was her hungry stomach or perhaps some thunder outside, but she noticed that the Slytherins weren't paying any attention to her. They were whispering about something and were practically leaving her out to sit on her own, so she dug through her book-bag and gripped the letter she had begun writing.

A kind of warmth shot through her body when she felt the bit of parchment on her fingertips. Just knowing that Silas would read how she had been feeling lately and how much she missed him lifted her spirits. She missed him more than anything in the world . . .

As Ellie laid the parchment out on the desk in front of her, she couldn't help but frown at the sight of the Slytherins beside her. Pansy, Draco, Theodore, Crabbe and Goyle were all leaning in close to Nikolai, who had something in his hands. Curious, Ellie leaned forward slightly to get a look at what it was. She frowned. It was a thick, black journal with a red ruby planted right in the centre. It looked brand-new and recently polished, but Nikolai flipped through the pages and there was his handwriting . . . so it wasn't new at all.

She caught Draco Malfoy's eye. He was giving her a simple stare before he furrowed his eyebrows - she furrowed hers in return.

Heart jumping in her throat, Nikolai whirled and snapped the book shut, stopping short of whatever it was he was saying. He'd caught Ellie and Draco staring at each other.

The well-known Slytherin gave her a pointed look, tucking his journal under his arm.

"Something the matter, Elyssa?" he said with a hint of attitude in his voice. She said nothing, just simply watched him. "Excuse me - I asked you a question. If your pathetic parents haven't taught you yet - questions are a request for an answer. Or perhaps your fool of a grandfather before he carked it. Do you need me to teach you respect and manners? I --"
