This is the penultimate chapter, meaning that it is the second to last chapter of the book.
Lauren panicked when she saw the bomb, it triggered something within her, and she hadn't told Abby yet, but she spent 2 weeks in a mental hospital because she saw ghosts. She tried to get up to the roof to warn Abby and Kyle about the bomb. But once she had managed to make her way up the stairs and to the door to the roof, it was locked.
She tried kicking the door in, but it made no difference. She had no key, and therefore had no way of getting past the locked door. And she had no way of letting her friends know they were in grave danger, but Abby and Kyle had their own problems up on the roof.
Lauren tried calling their phones but there was no answer from either of them. She had no idea what to do. So she did the only thing she could, attempt to disarm the bomb herself
Back on the rooftop, Evie started shouting at Abby and Kyle. Abby tried to get her son back, she begged and she pleaded for her son, and that's when Evie said the words that changed everything. "I can't give Noah back, he should have been my son, I should have ended up with Alex, I should have been his wife, then maybe I wouldn't have had to kill him that night at the river!"
Abby's heart felt strained, she felt disgusted. She realised that Evie was seriously mentally ill and she needed help, medical help. But the fact that she was threatening to kill a baby, and that was so far past the line that the line was no longer visible.
20 minutes had passed and Evie was still holding Noah over the edge, and there was only 3 minutes left on the bomb timer before it blew. Kyle went up to Evie and started shouting at her, the more he shouted, the more Evie walked backwards until she was on the very edge of the roof top. The backs of her feet were dangling off, that's when Abby caught her off guard and slapped her in the face.
Abby took the second that Evie was taken back by the slap and snatched back Noah from her. Abby took Noah and ran to the door that lead to the stairs.
She tried to open the door but couldn't, but then she saw the key on the floor. She unlocked the door in a hurry and ran to the stair case. Abby was in a panic and when running down the stairs to escape Evie, she tripped over and fell down the stairs, tumbling down at high speed, Noah was crying as they both fell...
