I walk into the school, looking around for Caroline. Last night I had promised her I'd help clean up the dance. After sitting with her on the phone for an hour with her expressing her feelings of seeing Tyler again, her gratitude for me "taking one for the team", as she called it, and getting Klaus to leave Tyler and her alone, and her sorrow about Alaric's death, she managed to convince me to help clean up the dance. That girl is a great manipulator.

"Caroline!" I call out walking to the gym. When I don't see her I keep walking around the school, looking for her. "Caroline! I know I'm late but the silent treatment is kind of petty, don't you think?" I continue to walk down the halls, passing classroom after classroom. "I mean 15 minutes isn't that bad all things considered. I-" I cut myself off at the sound of someone wheezing, wheezing in pain. "Caroline?" I ask, walking the classroom on my left.

I find Caroline with pencils in her hands, staking her to the desk, a tie around her mouth. "Care! What happened?" I rush to her side. My hands go to pull her pencils out, but she begins to shake her head 'no' furiously. Feeling someone approaching me, I turn and throw a punch, making contact as the person groans. They stumble back. As they move their hand from their face, I realize who it is. "Alaric?" I gasp, taking a step back. "How?"

Yet instead of an answer, Alaric charges at me. The impact of his weight against me, causes me to groan, the air being knocked out of me. I go to throw another punch, but he catches my fist, turning it so it snaps. Distracted by the pain, I let my body open up, allowing him to be able to reach and snap my neck. I fade into black.

Elena's POV

I'm at home when my phone begins to ring. Glancing down, Alaric's name comes up as the caller. My stomach drops as I inhales sharply. "Whoever this is, it's not funny," I answer.

"Well, who else would it be?" The familiar gruff voice of Alaric replies from the other line. My brow furrows.

"Ric?"

"Listen closely, I'm at the school, I have Caroline and Lily, and if you want to keep them alive, I need you to get in your car and come down here right away. If you tell anyone where you are going, I will kill them." Alaric hangs up. Dread fills in my veins. I can't let them die!

Stefan's POV
The doorbell rings. Out of the corner of my eyes, I watch Jeremy leave to answer it. "What the hell do you want?" He spits at whoever's at the door. I raise an eyebrow. Knowing that this can't be good, I head for the door.

"Now is that any way to treat a guest?" Klaus's snark reaches my ears. Now, I know it's not good. I walk up behind Jeremy.

"What are you doing here, Klaus?" I asks, on guard for whatever the Hybrid throws my way.

"Well, for starters, young Jeremy here could show some manners and invite me inside."

Damon walks over to the door from the kitchen as I move to stand in front of Jeremy protectively. "Why don't you go up to your room?" I demand, looking to the youngest Gilbert. When Jeremy doesn't move right away, Damon adds,

"Now."

Jeremy rolls his eyes, annoyed. I know that he likes to believe that he can protect himself, but I can't risk anything happening to him. Reluctantly, Jeremy heads up the stairs.

"Hm, poor lad. Loses one questionable father figure only to be replaced by the likes of the two of you," Klaus remarks. I glare at him, unamused.
