Toni's Pov:

A million thoughts rush wild in my head as I am told my daughter has been shot. I hike up my shirts and begin to sprint. John following shortly behind me. Tears spring out of my eyes and I feel like I can't run anymore but my daughter's life is on the line.

"Where's my baby!?" John says, running up to a doctor.

"Mr. Laurens, come in. They brought her in a half an hour ago, she lost a lot of blood-"

"Is she alive?" I ask.

"Yes, but you have to understand the bullet lodged in her left shoulder."

"Can we see her please?" John says. I can see him trying to contain his tears.

The doctor nods and leads us to Frances. We pass the Hamilton's. Eliza gives me a sympathetic look as a tear runs down her cheek.

"Dear Lord," I say when I see Frances.

"Frances." John says and runs over to her. We both kneel at her beside.

"I removed the bullet. Luckily the wound wasn't infected when she arrived, otherwise she would be a goner,"

I choke on a sob at the thought of my daughter losing her life. John puts his hand on my shoulder then kisses my knuckles.

"The wound was becoming worse and worse and it's a miracle it didn't become infected."

"Please, sir. Please keep her alive. I can't loose her too."

The doctor notices the mourning wear John, Frances, and myself are dressed in. He nods.

"I'm doing everything I can. Miss Laurens will be alright. And I am so sorry for your loss Mr. and Mrs. Laurens."

"Thank you, doctor." John says.

Philip's Pov:

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. FUCK.

"Philip, honey, calm down." Mom says. I bring myself back to reality. I feel like I've been in here for days, but it's only been an hour.

"Mom what if she doesn't wake up..." I sit down next to her. She sighs and pulls me into a hug.

"She'll be fine. I promise."

I nod and close my eyes. My heart is beating so fast and so loud I feel like everyone around me can hear it. Across the room, Mr. and Mrs. Laurens sit. Mrs. Laurens asleep in her husband's lap, tears staining her cheeks. Mr. Laurens strokes her hair and stares off into nothingness.

"Mr. and Mrs. Laurens?" The doctor says.

Mr. Laurens looks up at the doctor, preparing himself for the worse. Mrs. Laurens still sound asleep.

"She's awake."
