"NO!" Eliza sobs. She clutches onto Alexander. A doctor rushed into the room when he hears the screaming, his expression saddens when he sees the fate of Alexander.

"I'm sorry, Mrs Hamilton. He's gone."

"NO!" Eliza sobs.

Alex and Eliza's children are sent for, Philip and Frances being the first to arrive.

"F-Father.." Philip cries.

He hugs his mother and they cry in each other's arms.

"Mom is he really gone?" Frances asks. I nod. Frances lets out a sob and falls in my arms. She cries into my chest. "No..." She cries.

Eliza snips a lock of her husband's hair, and it is put in a ring for her. She wears the ring around a chain like a necklace.

the world turned upside down

...

The day after Alexander's death Eliza received a letter from Alexander.

"This letter, my very dear Eliza, will not be delivered to you, unless I shall first have terminated my earthly career; to begin, as I humbly hope from redeeming grace and divine mercy, a happy immortality.
If it had been possible for me to have avoided the interview, my love for you and my precious children would have been alone a decisive motive. But it was not possible, without sacrifices which would have rendered me unworthy of your esteem. I need not tell you of the pangs I feel, from the idea of quitting you and exposing you to the anguish which I know you would feel. Nor could I dwell on the topic lest it should unman me.
The consolations of Religion, my beloved, can alone support you; and these you have a right to enjoy. Fly to the bosom of your God and be comforted. With my last idea; I shall cherish the sweet hope of meeting you in a better world.
Adieu best of wives and best of Women. Embrace all my darling Children for me.
Ever yours
A.H." Eliza reads to me. Tears rushing down her face.

I hug Eliza, and she drops the letter.

"I miss him so much..." She sobs.

"Shh... I know, I know. I miss him too." I cry.

...

I spend lots of time with Eliza after Alexander passed. Poor Eliza has lost so many people in the past years. She almost lost her son, she lost a child, her sister, her mother, one month after Alexander's passing she lost her father as well.

"Toni.. please don't die. I can't lose you too. You and Angelica are all I have left." Eliza cries.

I hug Eliza, "I won't. I'll be here. I'll help you tell Alexander's story. I'll help you with the orphanage. Everything."

"I love you so much, Antoinette."

"I love you too, Elizabeth."

...

John had been called to battle. I haven't spoken to him in months. I long for his touch. Eliza and I moved in together, as all of our children have left home.

I sit writing a letter to Lafayette, when Eliza enters the room.

"Toni, there's a letter for you."

"Is it from John?" I ask.

"N-No.."

"E-Eliza.. Can you read it please?" I ask. Eliza nods.

"On Tuesday the 27th, Lieutenant Colonel John Laurens was killed in a gunfight. He was struck off his horse, as one of his men helped him to a medical tent, Laurens instructed a letter and handkerchief, enclosed in this letter, to be delivered to "His love, Antoinette"."

Eliza finishes off the letter but it's all a blur in my mind. She finishes the letter and looks up at me, tears in her own eyes. I stand up and fall to the floor.

"H-He's gone..." I repeat to myself over and over again until it sets in my mind that John is dead. My heart aches. He's gone. He's gone. He's gone. The one person I ever loved, is gone.

i loved,

and i loved,

and i lost you.

i loved,

and i loved,

and i lost you

i loved and i loved

and i lost you

and it hurts like hell
