Rosamund

I settled into my new role as Queen, in Owain's words, exceedingly well. He claimed I was born for such a role but I merely chuckled and dismissed it; it was my adaptation to the situation that allowed me to excel, not my primal features. It had been but two months since our wedding, guests such as Edward had left but a week after, with the exception of Uhtred and his men. I was told by Addela and Edwina that after they had paid their dues to Owain they left that same night. No doubt they had only come for Finan and I had broken his heart. And now, he was gone. Even so (and much to my guilt), I was in more bliss than I had expected would occur. While a day did not pass when I did not think of Finan; what he would be doing or who he was with, I felt happier than I expected.

Nevertheless, I was settling into my newfound position - and court - of which Aelwyd had played a key role in my adjustment. Her fifteenth birthday had passed but a few days ago and I had so enjoyed her company. She was growing more confident with me by the day and I was pleased; she was a sweet girl. Like her brother, she was kind. And that was a truly rare quality.

However, much to my dismay, the court of Llanfaes was all the more vicious than that of Winchester. While Wessex has its fair share of scheming Ealdorman and royalist plots, it seemed Llanfaes had that but tripled by ten. I would be told each day of some dead (to be more truthful they had been executed by order of the Crown) Ealdorman that opposed Owain. He would share the details and I would acknowledge it, taking their left behind relatives into my care; we could not risk more futile behaviour and thus my role became insurance of their loyalty. One such family had just arrived in the court; two of the brothers had been executed for plotting regicide and the only daughter was to join my household. Addela didn't like it, having traitors so close to me, but as I told her - it was our duty in our new home. And the girl, Eira, would be treated respectfully, I would ensure it. It was not her fault that her brothers were traitors.

The grounds of Llanfaes were quite beautiful. We strolled them like we had little else to do. Addela would walk with me, talking and laughing, while Edwina, Eira and the rest of my ladies followed suit. It was a fresh morning, despite it being quite late into winter. The snow fell thick and my boots trudged along with a crunch each time my feet pushed down to the ground. I could not, however, feel peaceful at that moment. I was rather inundated with worry; my Father, Madelgarde and brothers had remained since the wedding. It seemed they - my Father in particular - wished to ensure my position, my marriage, which in itself had permanency. We were bound by God's eyes and the consummation had only reinforced this. We were bound until, well, until death do us part.
