Rosamund

A singular cry left the child as it entered the world, and I was ever so grateful. He was beautiful. Pale, unblemished skin and the most piercing blue eyes. Even at birth, he had such tufts of dark hair, nothing like my own. He was such a sweet child. He cried a little but as soon as he relaxed into my arms, he made nothing more than a peep.

It had taken time for him to arrive but he had, now, and I was so grateful. I loved him. I had not known him more than an hour but I did, I loved him with all the love I could provide. It was not long after the birth when the door creaked open and Aelwyd stepped in with trepidation. I smiled softly and nodded to her,

"Come see your nephew," I whispered, smiling softly at her. I couldn't stop smiling. "You will be a King one day," Aelwyd whispered. I nodded slowly and smiled at her, knowing she would care for him should I ever perish.

The wooden door slammed open, causing both of us to shriek and the baby to cry. We instantly looked up to see who had disturbed our peace, both Aelwyd and I simultaneously frowning.

"Finan," I whispered, my mouth agape and the only emotion I felt was pure shock. He froze in his spot, his eyes fixated on the child. Aelwyd glanced from me to him and spoke,

"Did Edward send you?" She asked softly, a kind voice and good intent. Finan didn't register her words in the slightest. He stepped towards us and Aelwyd repeated her words,

"Well, did he?" Her tone was more demanding and authoritative this time. He glanced at her and nodded awkwardly,

"Uh, yes, Lady. The Lord Uhtred is below, in the tavern." He spoke. I smiled and turned to my sister-in-law,
