Chapter 19: fixing a broken mind part 2

One day later...

Hana was nowhere to be found, not even Sarah or Artemis could track her. I decided to look in the basement levels of the house. Although the better term for it would've been dungeon. There was no light so I relied on the light that I made while casting magic. I saw paw prints  and continued onwards. I began to hear whimpers coming from a room to my right and I ran inside and stepped in a puddle. It was too thick to be water and I looked around the room and found Hana shivering on the floor. There was a knife at her side, it was sharp and reflected the light from my spell with ease.
There was a hole in her chest and I noted that it barely missed her heart.

Y/N: H-Hana... what happened?!

Hana: L-let me... d-die

I picked her up and ran back up to the first floor. Sarah quickly appeared in front of me and let out a surprised gasp.

Sarah: oh my god!

I laid the girl down and Sarah places her hand on my shoulder and channeled some of her magic into me. I used magic to close the wound but the look Hana gave me was one of anger and sadness.

Hana: w-why...

Y/N: I could ask you the same thing, what could make you want to take your own life?!

Hana: I just want to be able to close my eyes and forget about what happened, to sleep without waking up in fear, and to look at another man without thinking in the back of my mind that they're going to tie me up and rape me!

Sarah: have you tried talking to Vin?

Hana: only once... b-but my memories hurt her... and she already has enough to worry about with Chris still being almost entirely unresponsive... I'm better off dead, maybe you can find an Anubis who is actually happy then.

I scratched Hana's canine ears and she looked up with surprise in her eyes.

Y/N: I don't want another Anubis, I want you.

Hana blushed and looked down to hide it.

Hana: I was brought up differently than normal monsters. I was an experiment to see if they could change the instincts of monsters from a lustful creature, to one that isolates themselves from humans. They half succeeded and it left me a shell of a monster, after trying to kill myself for the first time I was chained, I wasn't able to move my limbs for three years... I began to talk to myself, I didn't see another face until I lost it entirely. The rest of my life I spent with that she devil who controls the order! I'm not normal and you can't fix me! I'm broken beyond repair and you should just throw me away!

I wrapped my arms around Hana, she began to struggle but after some time she went limp in my arms.

Y/N: you're okay, I promise that no one will hurt you every again.

Hana: how?

Y/N: anyone who comes here would get taken away by harpies before making it halfway towards us, and Artemis would know twenty minutes ahead if someone is coming towards us.

Hana took a shaky breath and nuzzled her head against my chest. With every sob her ears twitched. I stayed by her side for a long time, it wasn't until months later that she recovered enough to not be a danger to herself. After that point it was hard to remember her before she changed for the better.
