My Daughter

My daughter is gone, her life flashed before my eyes.

Of all the things in her life, the last I had to worry about was guys.

She loved me dearly, and I loved her back.

Some days we would only see each other for a game of Blackjack.

I still remember her face, and how she looked when she smiled.

Never in my life, have I seen a more beautiful child.

Her voice was melodic, and her eyes were bursting with dreams.

When she cried tears, they flowed smoother than streams.

My heart left my body on the day she was born.

It flew into my daughter, to protect her I'd sworn.

Yet for all of my mistakes, I still remember the last.

The greatest of all, causing pain ever-last.

As I dug into the dirt, with tears drenching my face,

I knew my entire life this moment had to take place.

With the grave ready, and the stone tablet done,

Of all my hardships in life, the next was the hardest one.

My little girl's coffin, though she was little no more,

Now she was my height, a young woman for sure.

I can still remember the toughest part for me to get through.

It was when she hugged my from behind, and said to me "It's ok daddy, I still love you."

With those words, my heart shattered to pieces,

I looked at the tombstone, which mocked and it teases.

To come so low in life, I had no other choice.

Those were the last words she spoke with her sweet voice.

With the dirt mound now set, and my shovel in hand,

I began to do something to this day I can't stand.

By the end of it all, my heart nearly gave out,

Though I had water nearby, it felt like I've been through a drought.

Days upon days would I cry out my eyes,

Nothing in life is worth it, if my little girl dies.

My sweet little girl, now an angel in Heaven.

Watching me go through my own Armageddon.

I know one day I'll see her once more.

I'll embrace her again, and keep the promise I swore.

Her name is embedded in my memories and even on my door.

My daughter, I love her, forevermore.
