- A wise man I met once.Àwèlé's heart began to beat faster when she noticed the blood on Adéoba's body.
"My prince, what happened?"
He just smiled, adding to her unease. He gave a shrug before giving an off-handed reply
" I took care of a little business"
"What do you Mean?" She asked as she slowly shuffled back. Hoping he wouldn't notice her movements.
"Don't worry your pretty little head, my dear. I took care of your problem for you."
Àwèlé forced herself to ask
"W-what problem?"
Adéoba laughed shortly and shook his head as if her question was silly.
"Àdìo, who else? " He took a step closer and raised his blood stained hand to touch her cheeks. " He can't touch you anymore, my love"
Àwèlé gasped and clutched her ìró in her hands. " What did you do? What have you done to Àdìo ? You monster!!" She started to pound on Adéoba's chest with her little fists. The prince watched her, amused, until he suddenly captured her hands in his large ones and bellowed " Enough!!", Effectively shutting her up and getting her attention. Her chest was heaving because of the energy she had expended on his chest and the Prince's sight was drawn to her moving bosoms, his eyes riveted on them.
"Àwèlé" he began, pulling her to his chest and caging her with his arms
" Why do you treat me like this? My love. Why do you like it when I'm in pain? I love you and you know it. Why don't you want to be with me?"
He pulled her closer and nuzzled his head in her neck, placing kisses at the crook of her neck. Àwèlé squirmed and struggled in his grasp , managing to free her arm before drawing it back and slapping the prince across the face. Her slap stunned Adéoba, giving her the chance to step out of his arms and run. But Adéoba's surprise quickly wore off for she hadn't taken four steps before his strong hands gripped hers and pulled her back. He glared at her before returning her slap with more strength, shaking her like a rag doll. "Don't you EVER do that again, do you understand me?! I own you, you will not disrespect me!."
Àwèlé touched her throbbing cheek with her fingers, she raised fearful eyes to the prince and began scream for help."Somebody please help me! Help me please" The prince muffled her shouts with his palm and told her. "Scream and I will make sure that your family never sees another sunrise. Go on, scream"
When Àwèlé had promised that she wouldn't scream, he removed his hands and smoothed out his clothes. "I did all this for you , Àwèlé. I'd die for you if I had to, but I'll kill for you first. I love you"
"Àdìo did nothing to you, yet you killed him. May the gods punish you for the evil you have done!"
Adéoba shook his head vehemently.
"No! I did it for you. He was going to take you away from me. No one can. You belong to me"
"I don't love you!" Àwèlé screamed in reply"you are a monster. You killed an innocent man, yet you want me to be yours? I would rather die".At her words, it seemed like a switch had been flipped in the prince. He took one step forward and said.
"So be it"
"W-what? " Àwèlé was confused
"If you will not be mine , then no one else will have you."He took another step forward."w-what are you doing, my prince?"
Àwèlé stammered as she took shaky steps backwards. For every step she took, Adéoba took two, and soon, she had nowhere to go, except into the dreaded waters behind her.
Adéoba's face was a mask of anger, his insanity that had been suppressed for years bubbling up to the surface. " do you take me for a fool?. Do you think you can manipulate me like my mother manipulated my father?"
"N-no, I don't know what y-you are talking about"
Àwèlé was in tears now and her frail body had begun to shake. Adéoba's face revealed how deeply he had descended into insanity and she feared for her life.
The prince moved closer and snatched her hand in a vice like grip."you will not escape from me today, I shall have you.Bofé bokò, wether you like it or not". By this time, Àwèlé had begun to scream again, she could not believe that the future king was able to hide his madness from people for so long. But the psychopath only laughed as he watched her sob as she strained against his hold.
"Please, I beg of you, do not do this. I beg of you in God's name, Please! Don't!" She screamed as he pushed her to the ground and held her arms above her head, effectively pinning her down to the ground.
"Shut up! Or I will break your tiny neck with my bare hands" he hissed in her face. His hands began to wander over her skin, pulling at her clothes and tearing at her bùbá.
"Beautiful, you are so beautiful. I love you so much" . His words came out crazed and his eyes were full of darkness and lust. Àwèlé cried and pleaded, then she fought with all her might, then she prayed for someone to come and help her, and finally, she stopped fighting and lay limp as he took what he wanted.
And tore away what she cherished the most.
Her innocence.°°° °°° °°° °°° °°° °° °°° °°° °°° °°° °°° °°°
When he was done with his heinous crime, Adéoba rose up and dressed himself. He looked down at the frail girl crying and shaking on the ground, he had gotten what he wanted, but he was not satisfied. She had betrayed him, and she would have to be punished. He crouched down beside her whimpering form and caressed her tear stained cheek with a finger. In a mournful voice, he said " we would have been unstoppable together, Àwèlé. You would have made a great Queen." And then he stood up and pulled her into the river. Àwèlé's weak body barely had time to comprehend anything before her head was pushed into the water. She flailed against his hold and splashed around in the water, hoping to dislodge his hands, but her struggles were futile against his strength , her mouth opened, and in rushed the water, her lungs were screaming for air, and her eyes soon began to drift shut. Just as she was loosing consciousness, Adéoba pulled out her head and asked her
"Do you love me now?"
Àwèlé was shocked into silence and could only blink and draw in lung-fulls of air. This incensed Adéoba the more and he plunged her head into the water again, holding her under for a while.
When he pulled out her head, he yelled in her face. " I said, do you love me?!".
Àwèlé tried to say yes, but she could only utter a feverish " please" ,and yet again, Adéoba pushed her head into the water.
When he asked the third time, Àwèlé quickly replied" yes! I love you.", So that he wouldn't submerge her again. But Adéoba shook his head, " no, you don't. You don't love me, just like my mother never loved my father and i. You are going to run away, just like she did, causing baami to marry Adéronké. I hate you. You are just like her.You are both liars !". Then he pushed her head back into the water, but this time, he held her head under as the girl splashed and struggled, even as he wept about what he was doing, he did not want to kill her, but if it would keep other men away from her, then, so be it.
Àwèlé's last thoughts were about her family and her friends. How scared she was to die and how she wished she had never met Adéoba. As her last breath left her lungs, her heart was full of hatred and loathing towards the prince who ruined her life.
"You are mine" Adéoba kept repeating, until he noticed that Àwèlé had stopped moving in the water. To be safe, he waited a little more in order to make sure she was thoroughly dead before he brought her out and held her body against his chest.
The prince looked at his obsession as she laid in his arms. Her face was blurry because of the years in his eyes.
"Why, Àwèlé, why did you push me to do this ?, I love you. I really do." He whispered. Then he squeezed his eyes shut and kissed her forehead one last time before letting go of her body, so that it could sink to the bottom of the river, where no one would ever find her and where he would keep her. Forever.
Then he waded out of the river and went back to the palace. As if nothing had happened at all.A/n : 1,743 words! Hallaaa!!🙌. I Hope you liked it, cos I did.
