And, Enjoy👼Adéoba kept his promise to Omololá as she'd predicted. Two weeks after their meeting, he announced that they would be getting married very soon, in a month's time, to be exact. The king makers were ecstatic. And his step mother was relieved. It seemed that her son had finished grieving Àwèlé and was ready to move on. The village was agog with preparations weeks to the wedding day.
The two preliminary stages of the wedding had been done. The ìwádi and the ìjohen stages had gone by without a hassle. Olódùmarè seemed pleased with the joining. Omololá was full of pride and satisfaction as all her plans were falling into place. Her friends had begun to refer to her as olorì, and she even had bodyguards to follow her everywhere she went. All the women in the village were envious of her, well, all except Aríyíké.Some days to the royal wedding, Aríyíké visited her friend, Omololá. The sun was up in the sky, shining with a blistering intensity. But the people accepted it gladly, it was a welcome relief from the bone chilling cold the rains had brought.
Omololá had posted a guard in front of her house to let in visitors or turn unwanted people away. The guard, on sighting Aríyíké, relaxed and smiled at her.
" What does a pretty little girl like you want with the future queen?"
Aríyíké gasped with indignation, how dare he?
"How dare you! Who do you think you are to call me little?" She spat out. Even though she agreed in her mind that compared to him, she was tiny, she wasn't going to let him call her little. He was the huge one! Of course she would be little beside him.
In response, the guard chuckled, " alright. Pretty girl who isn't little, what is your business with the future olorì?"
"She is my friend, I just want to speak with her."
"Very well" he replied" wait here".
And then he went into the house to inform Omololá of her visitor. At first, Omololá was tempted to send Aríyíké away. But she thought about it critically and decided to let her in.
"Allow her in".
Outside, Aríyíké had been chewing on her lip in anxiousness. What if Omololá didn't want to see her? But her thoughts were disrupted when the annoying guard came back.
He smiled at her and Aríyíké forced herself not to return it, even though her mouth twitched with the starting of a smile.
"You can go in " he said, still with a smile on his face.
Aríyíké straightened up and took a deep breath before entering the house. As she went into the living room, her eyes widened. Everything. Every single thing had been upgraded. the furniture, walls and even the floors now screamed wealth. Something Omololá's father, who owned the house, lacked before.
Omololá was sitting on a finely crafted chair, and she wore layers of iyùn on her neck wrists and right leg. As women who were to be married into the royal family did.
" What do you want?" Omololá went straight to the point.
"What do you think you're doing? Omololá. Why are you marrying Adéoba even though you know what he's done?"
Aríyíké laughed . "I'm marrying him because I love him. I don't care about what he did or did not do. I will marry him"
Aríyíké was flabbergasted. "But you saw what he did to me! He is a psychopath. And what's more, he is in love with our friend, Àwèlé."
Omololá raised a hand to shut her up. "Àwèlé is your friend. Not mine. And Adéoba doesn't love her anymore. You know why? Cos she's dead! She's gone! So don't try to talk me out of this because I have made up my mind. "
Aríyíké gasped, tears welling up in her eyes. " You don't know that. She's still alive. She isn't- " she stopped as she choked on a sob."she isn't dead."
Omololá was becoming irritated with her friend's sniffling.
" Oh please. She's dead , so move on with your life. I have. "
"Why are you saying this? I don't understand. I thought the three of us were best friends"
" Not anymore. If that is all, please leave"
" No!" Aríyíké yelled. " It isn't all. If you won't tell anyone what Adéoba did. I will. I won't let him get away with what he did to me"Omololá snarled and leapt at Aríyíké. The latter only managing a loud squeak before she was crushed under Omololá's body. The future Queen's face was a mask of rage. She sat on her friend's stomach, knocking the wind out of her and wrapped her hands around her neck. "If you think you can ruin all I have worked for. Then you are dead wrong. And if you tell anyone what my husband did, I will kill you slowly and painfully. I will let you suffer before I snuff the life out of you." To get her point across, Omololá decided to lie. " If you don't believe me, ask Àdìo. Oh, but you can't, because I killed him. So don't underestimate me. I will do anything to have Adéoba".
Aríyíké was shaken to the core. She couldn't believe that her best friend of twenty years was a cold blooded murderer.
"Please. I won't tell anyone. I promise. I swear on the gods".
She really wouldn't tell anyone. She was too scared of the King to do that. She just wanted to threaten Omololá so she would leave that psychopath alone.
Omololá gave a satisfied smile and patted Aríyíké on the head as she stood.
" Good. Now get out. And don't come back".
Aríyíké nodded shakily and scrambled out the door, straight into the guard outside. To stop her from falling, he held her by the arms but she jerked away from him and turned, running as fast as she could. Leaving a confused man in her wake.°°° °°° °°° °°° °°° °° °°° °°° °°° °°° °°° °°°
The day of the wedding arrived, and the celebrations began. After the rites of joining, the reception was held in the palace compounds. The people ate to their heart's content. Then after that. It was time for the consummation of the marriage. As the custom dictated, the materials had been set up. If the new was proven pure and untouched, a large keg of emu ògùrò and a full pack of ìsháná would be sent to her family. But if she wasn't a virgin prior to the marriage, the keg was sent empty to her family and the ìsháná would be used before they were sent off. The ultimate disgrace for a new bride.
The queen mother, Adéronké sat on needles through out the entire consummation period, trying to detect what was happening in the room. She heaved a sigh of relief when Adéoba emerged with the proof of his bride's innocence,
A bloodied white cloth, proudly clutched in his hands.
The chiefs and kingmakers stood, joy written on their faces. A chorus rose up amongst the people, picked up by everyone in the village." Long live the Queen!"
Hey y'all we done with the chapter!!!!!!!
Okay! Thoughts? Rants? Concerns?
Comment them all, I'll listen.😜👼
Like, now we know how far Omololá can go ( lol, that rhymed 😏). Poor Aríyíké, she's surrounded by evil people😖.Okay onto the translations
Ìwádi: this is a stage in a yoruba wedding where the families of the bride and groom consult the gods to find out if they're compatible.
Ìjohen: this means " saying yes" or " agreement" this stage is where the bride's family agree to give their daughter's hand in marriage.
Iyùn: these are beads worn by royalty or something. ( Wasn't really paying attention to my yoruba teacher😐). The important thing is that they are a type of bead.
Emu ògùrò: means palm wine. It is a locally made tapped from a palm tree. Delicious and slightly alcoholic. Not like I've tried it or anything😐.
Ìsháná: means matchsticks.
So, that is everything.
