-From His soulmate, by BlackRose465111.six years later
"Don't put that in your mouth, Àdìo! "
"don't touch that!'
"sit down there before i slap you"
Òsunyémisí smiled as he listened to Àwèlé screaming at her son in the courtyard . For a while, everything would be quiet, but the boy , like every other boy his age, was troublesome and curious about everything he saw. Presently, he was "helping " his mother with the laundry but he was obviously just getting in her way and playing in the grass.Of course, it would have been better on everyone's health if he was inside. But the little boy, bless his heart, was hellbent on helping his mother. He was such an intelligent little boy, sensing his mother's every mood. He would puff up his little boy chest and tell his mother.
"I am not a little boy Maami, I am a warrior, so you don't need to worry about anything. i'll protect you. Always."
And his mother would marvel at how lucky she was to have a son like him.
Àwèlé smiled as her son ran towards her like he'd been doing all day
"Maami! look! it's a.a. what is it again?"
"It's ewédú plant, my dear" As if she hadn't told him a hundred times.
"yes, yes, I remember now" he nodded to emphasize his words. "Can we eat
àmàlà and ewédú tonight?"
"but we ate àmàlà and ewédú yesterday, we can't eat it everyday, now can we?"
Àdìo sighed and scuffed his toes on the floor, heaving a defeated sigh. "no, we can't"
To appease him, Àwèlé said, "don't worry . èwà ati àgbàdo nko?" She knew his second favorite food was beans and corn. his response did not disappoint.
"yaaay! e shé maami. thank you mother".
Òsunyémisí decided to greet the little boy. He put down the cowries he had been using to consult the gods and stepped out of the shrine. Àdìo's face split into a beaming grin when he caught sight of the old man. Àwèlé's smile withered when she saw her son playing with Òsunyémisí. The little boy really wanted a father figure. Many a time, he'd gotten into fights. Àwèlé's heart broke when she'd asked him about his fights and he'd said in a sad little voice.
"they called me a bastard. maami. It's not true, is it?"
she'd furiously shaken her head. "No no no, my dear, you're not a bastard.Don't listen to anyone who calls you that. you are NOT a bastard"
"but i don't have a father, Táiyé says that people who don't have fathers are bastards. maami, where is my father?'' The little boy had tilted his head in confusion.
Àwèlé sighed. Here comes the lie. "he's dead. He died before you were born. so you have a father. Not having a father doesn't mean you are a bastard. Do you understand?"
Àdìo's had nodded and ran back to play with his friends.
Òsunyémisí sighed when he saw the look on Àwèlé's face. He knew the young girl remembered more than she let on, but she would open to him in time. He just hoped that she could move past what had hurt her so deeply that she would see the need to lie............................................................
Àwèlé, not being the type to take hand-outs, decided to start up a business to improve her standard of living and repay Òsunyémisí for giving her shelter. So she decided to do what she loved best, medicine. And with her powers, healing people became a piece of cake. After a while, she'd mastered how to heal people without the light manifesting itself. Then people from far and wide began to hear of her healing prowess, but Àwèlé refused to attend to anyone who wasn't from her village. She couldn't risk being recognised by any one. Everyone was confused , other business women would give their limbs to be known around the neighbouring villages. But not Àbèbí alagbo, she wanted to remain a local herbalist. People gossiped and made assumptions about Àwèlé's reluctance to go into the neighbouring villages.
On a sunny day before the general market day, Àwèlé woke up late and rushed to her shop with Àdìo still chewing his breakfast. When she got there, she stopped short when she saw a woman in front of the shop, facing away from her. So she cleared her throat
"hello?who is there?"
The woman turned around and Àwèlé's heart stopped for a second. Àdìo tugged on his mother's hand and asked "Maami, who is that woman?"
His question seemed to have brought his mother out of her thoughts, for she swallowed and replied
"She's my friend, Aríyíké"Whuuuuuuuuuuut?????
Who saw this coming? I hope this chapter was worth the wait. Poor Àdìo, he wants a father really bad, only if he knew how psychotic his sperm donor really is. What do you think Aríyíké will do?E shé means thank you( to an older person)
Táiyé is the name given to the first twin to be born
ewédú is a plant used to make the ewédú soup.
èwà ati àgbàdo nko?" Means what about beans and corn?. Beans and corn is my favourite meal of all time. What's yours?
