Aríyíké was a shivering and quaking mess when she was brought before the prince. She'd been on her way to Omololá's house when she had been waylaid by some strange men. Her screams of help had been muffled by a strong hand and she had been tied, gagged, blindfolded and bundled to an unknown place. Needless to say, she was hysterical with fear.
She huddled into a scared ball as she heard approaching footsteps, wishing she was at home with her mother. How could she have known that doing something as normal as walking to a friend's house would lead to this. She gave out a muffled scream when she felt hands on her shoulder as she was roughly heaved up and into a kneeling position. The scared girl tensed even more when she heard a voice coming from a corner of the room.
" Now, now, boys. That is no way to treat a lady."
Her blindfold was ripped off and she looked around the small room, noticing that it was bare except for a chair and a shelf. To her utmost horror, she saw that the shelf was lined with dangerous looking weapons and fear inducing objects. There were three men with her. Two beside her and one in front of her who looked to be in charge. At first, his face was obscured by the hood he wore, but she made a sound that would have been a piercing scream if it hadn't been muffled by her gag when he lifted his hood to reveal the face of the prince.
The prince gave a semi imperceptible nod to one of the men and her gag was removed. Aríyíké concentrated on breathing slowly to keep from screaming. The men looked like they were waiting for an opportunity to beat her up. Adéoba was satisfied with her submissiveness, he did not like it when they screamed. Finally, the prince spoke, cutting into Aríyíké's imagination about what he was going to do to her.
"Aríyíké, I do not have any business with you, neither have you crossed Me in any way, I simply wish to know something about your friend, Àwèlé, will you tell me?"
The poor girl nodded, still trying to calm her beating heart. She flinched when he yelled at her.
" Words! Olódùmarè gave you a mouth for a reason."
"Y-yes, my prince" she meekly replied.
"Good. Do you know who Àwèlé is in love with?"
Stunned, Aríyíké's mouth fell open for some seconds before she muttered a weak "yes, I do"
"Good" the prince was smug, " very, very good, who is he?"
Aríyíké was silent for a while, then she answered. " I do not know, my prince".
The first slap whipped Aríyíké's head to the side, while the next one sent her crashing to the floor. She whimpered as her cheeks burned and could not stop the wave of tears that poured from her eyes. She was again heaved back to her kneeling position and the prince asked her again. "I said, who is he?"
Aríyíké was full on sobbing now, hysterical tears that bubbled up from inside her. She knew about Àwèlé's lover, but she did not want to tell the prince about him, scared that Adéoba would kill or hurt him.
It seemed that she had taken too long to answer because Adéoba swung his leg back and kicked her in the stomach, knocking the wind out of her and causing her to double over in pain. The Prince's voice pierced into the haze of pain clouding her head .
" I can do this all day Aríyíké, but I don't think I Can say the same for you. Tell me who. He. Is."
Aríyíké, in a surprising show of courage, lifted her head and spat a mixture of mucus and spit on Adéoba's face. The Prince's face darkened as he wiped off his face with a cloth. Then he gave another nod to his goons. And when the first fist came flying towards her, Aríyíké closed her eyes and muttered a quick prayer to herself.
God save us all from this demon.

"Àdìo! Please, his name is Àdìo " Aríyíké gasped , unable to bear the pain any longer. Adéoba smirked evilly and lifted her head with his foot. " That wasn't so hard, was it? If you'd just said that earlier, you'd have been spared all this pain. What else do you know about him?"
Aríyíké closed her eyes in shame as she told the prince what he needed. Tears of defeat running down her face. When he was satisfied, the prince told her to keep their
" meeting" a secret, or she would go missing, along with her family. Aríyíké was all too glad to go home where it was safe. She promised to keep her mouth shut about the incident.
Later, she found herself hobbling on the road, left alone to find her way back to her house where she was received by worried and shocked parents.
But no matter how many times she was interrogated or begged to say what had happened to her, she remained mum, the Prince's threat imprinted in her mind. And when she was alone at night, she would remember the Prince's words and she would shudder and say the words she had begun to find comfort in.

God save us from this demon.
