Kings Cross Station has a basement. It's not a very nice basement, I'll admit. But it works. Yeah well, it doesn't matter much. It's got boxes and stuff, but that's pretty much it. The beige paint is peeling on the walls and ceiling.
My parents died when I was 11, and that's when my aunt and uncle took me in. By tonight, my fifth year at Hogwarts will have officially started. Yay. Excitement. I can't wait. (I so, so can.)
My cousins make it on the train by about 10:50, after having to push through a crowded platform of parents saying goodbye to their kids. All of the sudden, I feel discouraged. I really feel my family's absence, instead of knowing it. There is no one on the platform to say goodbye to me and hug me and give me a kiss and tell to make good choices. All I have are my cousins, and they don't even like me. I wish, for once, to have someone to look back to as I'm loading my trunk onto the train, and someone to wave at through the window as the train is pulling away from the station.
Knock.
Someone's knocking on the door of the compartment I'm in. This is weird because no one usually bothers or notices me in school. I'm practicing wind at the moment, and the sound takes me off guard and I accidentally throw a sharp ball of air towards the door. It makes a loud wrapping noise. I gasp, my heart dropping.
"Shit!" I exclaim. I panic for a second. The person opens the door, and at first all I hear is the sound of the screeching compartment door. Then, I see a frightened and shocked expression is strewn across a face.
His face.
Wow. That's all I can think. Wow. He's so... still. Featured. His eyes are so brown, his hair too. His hair is messy, sticking out in all kinds of directions. His eyes are wild, confused, yet still and polite. He has a scar running down the side of his left cheek.
He stares at me for a second. "Are you practicing magic?" He says.
"I-I.... no. No. No. I'm not."
"What was that sound, then?" His voice is like warm coffee. And God, he's so cute...
"Moony! Where are you, man?" A voice yells from outside the compartment. Suddenly, a boy stands next to "Moony". That's an interesting name.
The second boy has also messy, sticky-outy hair, longer that Moony's. His eyes are also brown, but he's taller and has darker, longer hair.
"Ooh, Remus's talking to a girl!!!" The second one yells. "Prongs! Get over here!"
I hear the sound of warm laughter, and a third boy appears. He has coal black hair and circular glasses. He's a little shorter than boy #2. Ok, so... The third person was Prongs? Wait didn't the second person call Moony Remus? Okay, this is really confusing.
"Padfoot-Oh! Hello," Prongs smiles at me. I give him a small smile back, my thoughts colliding with one another.
"Sirius, get out - I'm sorry, my friends are idiots. There aren't any other empty compartments. Do you mind if we sit?" says Remus aka Moony aka boy #1 aka THE hottest person I have seen since I was 14 and I went through Bellatrix's Hot Wizards Weekly magazines.
"Um, okay. Sure. I guess." Please don't say anything stupid Amber.
They walk in, adjusting their clothes and sitting down. While Prongs' body is in the compartment, but he sticks his head out of the door and yells, "Wormtail! I-I mean Peter!" There's a fourth one with two names?
"Shut up, will you?" I hear a girl say. Prongs smiles suddenly, switching on what appears to be charm.
"Hey Lily," he flirts. I hear a scoff from outside. Padfoot/Sirius laughs, then goes next to Prongs and looks out.
"Why hello, Lily! How was your summer? James just talked about you all-"
"Shut up, Sirius!" Prongs, or James, shoves Padfoot, or Sirius, but #2 just laughs.
"God, can you withstand one moment without being completely impulsive, Potter?"
"Don't think so, beautiful!"
A blond, short boy appears just as James says this. Okay. Not weird at all.
His eyes turn to me, then sits next to Remus.
"I'm sorry. Excuse me - Sirius and James, sit down and stop messing with Lily. We need to properly introduce ourselves," the cute one says, then smiles at me. Sirius pulls James away from the door, much to James' reluctance. They sit, James next to me.
"I'm Remus Lupin. This is Peter, Sirius, and James. And you are?" All eyes are on me. I sit in a single moment of the most deafening silence I've ever had to sit through.
Okay, Amb, don't mess this up. Just say your name.
"I'm Amber. Amber Diamanté." Wooh! See? Not so hard. Jeez, Remus is so cute. "Did you know Remus means moon?" Oh my god. Worst pick up line ever. Why couldn't I just keep my mouth shut?
But Remus just smiles, a full, bright smile. "Yes. I did," he says, his smile never faltering. I can't see the others, just him. "Did you know both your names are jewels?"
It is my turn to smile. My heart races. He is totally flattering me and I love it.
"Yes, I did," I say. We take a second to just look at each other and I want to contemplate just what exact shade of brown his eyes are-
"Another Remus," Sirius says sarcastically. "Oh goody."
"Shut up," Remus laughs, and he's blushing. My cheeks flush and I look out the window. I can feel his eyes linger on me, and I soak up his gaze.
