She hugged her love, hoping to calm his anger. But fear grew in the pit of her stomach as she felt his grip on her tighten painfully. She called out to him but the minute she looked up, his fist connected with her face.

Elise POV

Weekends are great. The workday was 9am-5 pm rather than 7am-6pm. I took my time waking up this morning. After dressing in a long sleeved mauve blouse and a black, long skirt with black heels I began the drive to work. Of course this was all after a warm bacon breakfast sandwich because food is great and my stomach will consume itself if I don't eat.
The drive to work today was a short one. Walking in seemed familiar as Lucille approached me. She hadn't for a week or so. "Morning Eli! Sorry I haven't said hi, all us lower workers have been stressed trying to keep to the new bosses strict work methods" she said with a pout. Barely here for two weeks and he's already set his own policies, that's a bit fast. "But HOT DAMN-" Lucille exclaimed suddenly, causing me to quickly turn my head toward her, "he is a looker!" She giggled. I scoffed at her and shook my head. "He isn't aallll that" said another voice. It came from a tall slim woman who I recognized to be Lucille's friend,Valerie. "Hey Val! Oh this is Elise, she works for the boss" Lucille told her while gesturing towards me. The woman and I exchanged greetings and shook hands. "Now you definitely are a looker if I've ever seen one" Valerie told me with a flirty smile. I was shocked at her sudden comment. I wasn't sure how to react so I thanked her for her compliment. Lucille gently pulled my arm and we began to walk the halls again with Valerie on her right and I to her left. "Back up Val, she's off limits" Lucille warned, but her youthful looks made her look far from threatening. Val laughed at her efforts. The two of them were very contrasting characters. Lucille was very talkative and despite being 23, she looked more like a teen. Valerie was different. Not only was her personality more flirty and her looks more mature, she was visually very different. Lucille was a small blonde woman with blue eyes and pink cheeks. Meanwhile Valerie was a taller woman with black/brown hair and light eyes that made her stand out. We had reached the break room and I bid the two goodbye then went in to get the coffees...

I set the coffee on Elijahs desk then lifted up my tablet. "Sir, would now be a good time to read the agenda for today?" I asked. Without looking up from his papers, Elijah quickly spoke a no. "Pardon me sir?" I asked. "Clear it. Today we have to focus on the account my dad had begun before he left." Elijah explained. He then stood up, harshly moving papers around his desk. He nearly knocked over his coffee and I warned him to watch the beverage. "What's happened to the account?" I questioned him as he walked over to a file cabinet. "The other party is concerned with my brother and I taking over and is attempting to back out. The contract states that it can be voided within a two week period" he finished with a sigh. "Unfortunately, I am not very skilled at dealing with others" he continued, '' so I've contacted my brother letting him know the situation so he can rush back from his trip." I nodded. I dismissed myself to help look over some contract details and gather convincing arguments for the account.

A few hours into the workday, I heard a one sided discussion from Elijahs office. Although the door was closed, I could hear Elijah arguing into a phone. It seems he is having a hard time convincing his brother to rush over. This brother seems to be a distasteful man. I wonder if he'll be suited for this job. I felt sympathetic for Elijah. Not only was he handling the beginning load for both him and his sibling, but he has to deal with this stressful situation as well. Comes with the job I guess. An idea formed in my mind. I attempted to knock on the door but Elijah seemed too distracted in his call to notice it. I decided to act on my own accord and turned back to my desk. I dialed the number for the account and took a deep breath.

Elijah finally finished a heated argument that had lasted nearly an hour. I walked over to the door and knocked. I heard a silent "come in" and did so. "Sir, I-'' "Why is this coffee cold?" Elijah interrupted me. I frowned then replied. "It was warm this morning when I first brought it in" He sighed then threw it in the trash. What a waste. "What do you need Elise?" He said, with what sounded like an attitude as he sat in his seat. I bit my lip in annoyance. "Ive calmed the situation with the account" I said shortly. He looked up at me, "How so?" "I called the other party, directly reasoning with him the situation. He agreed to allow you and your brother the opportunity to convince him to stay. In the meantime he's asked that I add a clause to the contract that broadens his time limit to leave." I finished. Elijah did not look happy. "You should have come to me first, Elise. I am your boss and you do not act on your own without addressing me before you attempt something that could have worsened the situation!" He grew a bit louder. I clenched my jaw in anger. "Pardon me, sir, but you were unavailable for well over an hour. I saw a chance and took it. I am not out of place in my decision. You still have much to learn  and with my holding the most experience, I felt it the right direction to move" I continued, "In addition to this, rather than worrying about what didn't happen, be grateful I found a chance for you and your brother. A chance, which, may likely be as wasted as that poor coffee due to your brother's lack of reliability. I can't help but question the future of this company in the hands of you two!" I snapped. That last comment may have been too much but I held my glare against Elijah. He was shocked to say the least as his blue eyes stared into mine. I felt a strange flutter in my chest. Elijah then bursted out laughing, his eyes closing as he smiled. My attention was caught to say the least. I huffed. "What is so funny?" He continued laughing for a few seconds then replied. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to mock you. It's humorous that you compare this situation to a cup of coffee." He finished with a small grin as he shook his head. I couldn't help the small chuckle that left my mouth. "That is a bit odd" I quietly admitted. Elijah sighed. "I'm sorry. You're right......It's been a tough week and I'm desperately trying to learn as much as I can in order to take care of this company," he paused and rubbed his face. "And I have to admit, your ability to handle this situation better than I is....frustrating." I stayed quiet as he continued, "As for my brother, yes he seems incompetent but I assure you he will be able to solidify this account for us." He finished with a sincere look in his eyes. My ego rose hearing him say I handled the situation better than him. But, I can't be so quick to judge these new bosses. "I apologize for my comments as well. Although I have no opinion of your brother, I do see that you are working hard and that is very admirable of you." I said while looking down. Looking straight at him was embarrassing at the moment. He chuckled then thanked me. The work day was just about up and as I dismissed myself to leave, Elijah called to me. "Oh Elise, you should know that Darren is coming at the end of next week. " I nodded. I began to walk away but stopped in the doorway of his office. I turned back to Elijah and found him standing next to me, his briefcase in his hand ready to leave. "OH-um who is Darren?" I asked, feeling very confused. "That's my brother" He replied looking down at me. I stood dumbfounded for a second. That took awhile to process. Maybe I'm overworked. Meanwhile two big hands picked me up and moved me out from his doorway. Elijah mumbled an apology as he locked his door. He then guided me out of my office into the halls as he locked the final door. I must have been shocked from his previous action so much so that I was barely able to reply to his goodbye by the end of it. Part of me had been terrified from not only him touching me, but his strength. The other side, oddly enough, had focused on the warmth that spread from where he touched up to my cheeks. What is going on with me?

Oooooh he comin. :D
