The Affair

Drew

I stood at the free throw line, my hands shaking. I dribbled the ball, relaxing more and more each time I heard it meet the pavement.

It was a sound I found comforting.

And after my latest discovery, I needed all the comfort I could get. Mom was not looking for Dad. No, she was looking for her comfort--a margarita and her boy toy, Sebastian.

I shouldn't have been surprised. I should've seen it coming, in all honesty. The way she's been happier lately. The small comments she makes to him. The sudden disappearances.

Dad didn't love her. He didn't even take the time to pretend he did. Heck, he probably knew about the affair and didn't even care.

The affair. She was having an affair.

Didn't she know the media would catch wind of this soon? Was she even worried about that?

Swoosh. The ball went perfectly into the basket.

Was she even worried about Eve? Her precious baby girl was missing, yet there she was acting like a seventeen-year old with no cares in the world.

The ball hit the backboard.

Where was Eve when I needed her?

Why did she have to leave?
