Kay

"I'm going to the restroom." I said, as the waitress clumsily tried to pick up all of oir dishes at once. My thoughts were cloudy, and I needed to get away.

Drew was my best friend, someone who knew me more than life itself. But he wasn't Eve. He didn't understand how little things could set me off. He didn't see that bringing me to a diner was the worst possible thing to do.

Eve knew, and I needed her back.

I pulled out my phone and clicked on her number. E, it's level eight.

Level eight. God, I never thought Drew and I would reach this stage, the it-should-have-ended-two-weeks-ago stage. Eve had only been missing for a few days, yet everything had fallen apart.

My phone chimed. Level two, and it'll get better.

She had responded. She had responded.

I reread her message. Level two, the nervous level.

Joshua's a great guy. Don't be nervous.

That's not why I'm nervous. She replied, followed by a quick goodbye.

Why was she so nervous? How did she know everything was going to get better?

I quickly touched up my make-up and went back to our table.
