I wasn't a masochist, and I had seen the emotion - or lack of it - on Katniss' face after Gale had kissed her. I was feeling secure, so I answered.
"Truth."
"Would you date Katniss?" Jace asked casually. I froze. Jace was apparently more perceptive than he looked. Gale was glaring at me, something I was used to but not completely okay with. This wasn't about the fact that she and Gale had been friends for forever. This was about the fact that she was wonderful, and tough, and cared so much about the people around her (especially her sister) that she would do anything for them. I was staring at her, I realized, and she was staring right back. I could see fear in her eyes, of rejection but also of being unconditionally loved. I felt a swell of emotion, and couldn't keep it in any longer. I looked in her eyes and, trying to mimic Jace's casual tone answered,
"Yeah, I love her," there was an immediate uproar inside my head. "I... I mean date, I'd date-"
"Oh my god that's so sweet!" Rachel exclaimed. Everyone was grinning at me (well, not EVERYONE), and the general atmosphere was accepting, not weirded out. I chanced a glance at Katniss, who was crimson, and then Gale, who was also crimson but for very different reasons. I knew the three of us would have a private chat later. I cast my gaze around the room for someone who hadn't gone yet and, seeing the expressive clothes of the warlock, I said,
"Magnus, truth or dare?"
