Rock music flooded Billy's room muting anything that was outside- just the way he liked it. And even though the music was deafeningly loud Billy didn't mind- he liked the control he had over the volume. Billy was getting ready to go on his date with Natasha and the rest by applying aftershave to certain areas and spraying some product in that one curl to make it last. He took one last look in the mirror before giving himself a wink and taking out a cigarette and lighting it. He was taking a drag of his cigarette when Susan interrupted him.
"Billy" she said loud but not in a aggressive way
"Yeah I'm a little bit busy in here Susan" Billy shouted back
"Open the door right now" Billy's father Neil growled.
Billy calmly walked to the door opening it to be faced with a angry Neil and a worried Susan
"What's wrong?" Billy asked
"Why don't you tell us" Neil tried to be smart
"Because I don't know" Billy replied getting annoyed
"We can't find Maxine" Susan interjected quickly
"And her window is open, where is she?" Neil added
"I don't know" Billy sighed
"You don't know?" Neil asked rhetorically
"Look I'm sure she just, I don't know, went to the arcade or something... I'm sure she's fine" Billy said trying to get away without a beating as he went back into his room
"You were supposed to watch her" Neil stated the obvious
"I know dad I was, it's just you guys were three hours late and well, I have a date" Billy sighed putting his brown leather jacket on. "I'm sorry okay"
"So that's why you've been staring at yourself in the mirror like some faggot instead of watching your sister" Neil pushed trying to get a reaction out of Billy
"I have been looking after her all week dad okay ? She wants to run off then that's her problem all right! She's thirteen years old she doesn't need a full time babysitter- and she's not my sister" Billy snapped giving Neil exactly what he wanted.

Suddenly Billy was locked up against the wall, Neil right on top of him.
"What did we talk about?" Neil snarled at his son but when he didn't respond his first suddenly met Billy angelic face and the punch could be heard echoing around the room.
"What did we talk about?" Neil repeated himself
"Respect and responsibility" Billy replied
"That's right, now apologise to Susan" Neil demanded
"I'm sorry Susan" Billy muttered
"It's okay really-" Susan tried to stop Neil but he carried on
"No" Neil yelled louder " It's not okay. Nothing about his behaviour is okay. But he's going make up for it. He's going to call whatever whore he's seeing tonight and cancel their date and then he's gonna go find his sister like the good, caring brother that he is; isn't that right Billy?" Neil barked
"Yes sir" Billy said softly
"I'm sorry... I didn't hear you" Neil almost mocked
"Yes sir" Billy repeated louder
"Find max" Neil demanded in the harshest tone he had used all night.

When Neil left the room Billy socked up everything that had just happened in the last 10 minutes and before he knew it he was closing his eyes letting tears sadly roll down his cheek. In that moment Billy was so tired of everything. Tired of feeling useless in his fathers eyes. Tired of acting like a prick to hide how broke he is. Tired of pushing away people who care- like Violet. He was not just tired but exhausted and he needed a brake. Those were Billy's last thoughts before he took of to look for his sister...
