A mournful silence filled the room as Violet sat with her brother, not wanting to let him out of her sight. No one knew what to do, or how to behave after the tragic death of Bob Newby. Mike had pointed out that Bob was in fact the founder of the boys beloved AV club and how he taught Mr.Clarke, the science teacher, everything he knew. It got Violet thinking of the last time she spoke to Bob and what she said to him, how they only had a little conversation as Violet had to run of to cheer practice- if she would of known, she would of stayed longer and been late to cheer. But she didn't know this would happen. No one did. "We cant let him die in vein" Mike said "What do you want us to do Mike? The chiefs right on this, we can't stop the demodogs on our own" Dustin exclaimed mad that he was useless in this situation. "Demodogs?" Max asked causing Dustin to sigh "Demogorgan, dog" Dustin explained mushing his hands together to show how they fit together " demodog, it's like a compound. Play on words-" he was going to go on but Max stopped him "Okay!" "When it was just Dart... maybe" Dustin said "But there is a army now" Lucas added "Precisely" Dustin responded "His army" Mike said "What do you mean?" Violet asked Mike "Maybe if we can stop him, we can stop his army?" Mike exclaimed running to grab something "Who are we talking about?" Violet asked Mike again, this time louder so she would get a response "The shadow monster" Mike ran back with one of Wills drawings slamming it down on the table. "It got him that day on the field, it's like a virus infecting him?" "So this virus is connecting him to the tunnels?" Max asked "To the tunnels, the monsters, the upside down, to everything" Mike said "Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa slow down, slow down" Steve exclaimed, not being able to keep up with so much information "The shadow monster is in everything so when the vines feel something, like pain, then do does Will" Mike explained "So does Dart"Lucas added "Like what Mr.Clark taught us. The hive mind" Mike said "Hive mind?" Steve started but it was more of a question. "A collective consciousness. It's a super-organism" Dustin tried to explain but Steve wasnt really grasping it. "So this shadow monster that controls everything. It's the brain?" Violet asked to make sure she was following along "Exactly. It's like the mind flayer" Dustin said "What?" Steve and Max said at the same time "Wait, isn't that from a game?" Violet asked confused to what it had to do with the situation at the moment.

"The mind flayer" Dustin said slamming a manual on the table "The hell is that" Hopper demanded, tired from everything that had happened today and not really in the mood to listen to children explaining games "It's a monster from a unknown dimension it's so ancient that it doesn't even know it's true home. It enslaves races of other dimensions by taking over their brains using its highly developed psionic powers" Dustin said receiving a bunch of confused looks. "Oh my god. None of this is real. This is a kids game" Hopper exclaimed "No, it's a manual and it's not for kids and unless you know something we don't this is the best metaphor-" "Analogy" Lucas corrected Dustin "Analogy- that's what your worried about?" Dustin said baffled by Lucas's timing to correct him. "Fine an a analogy for understanding whatever the hell this is" "Okay so this mind flamer thing" Nancy started "Flayer" Violet corrected not trying to push Nancy's buttons but doing exactly that "Yeah mind FLAYER" Dustin sighed "What does it want" Nancy asked "To conquer us basically, it believes it's the master race" Dustin explained "Like the Germans" Steve tried to get a input on the conversation but failing miserably "The Nazis Steve" Violet quietly corrected him "Oh yeah sorry the uh, the Nazis" Steve quickly corrected himself after hearing Violet mutter the right answer to him. "Uh... if the Nazis were from another dimension totally. It views other races like us as inferior to itself"Dustin said explaining Steve's comparison. "It wants to spread, take over other dimensions" Mike added "We are talking about destruction of our world as we know it..." Lucas decided to worry everyone even more. "That's great, that's great. That's really great" Steve said pacing around until Violet stopped him so he didn't miss out on any of the conversation. "Okay so this thing is the brain, meaning it controls everything so if we kill it..." Violet started only for Mike to finish her off "We kill everything it controls" "We win" Dustin said "Theoretically" Lucas added "Great. So how do we kill this thing? Shoot it with fire balls or something?" Hopper asked, finally getting on board with the analogy. But even though Dustin knew he was trying his best to understand all of this he couldn't help but chuckle as the idea of shooting the mind flayer with fireballs, like they were actually playing a game of D&D. "No, no no. No fire - no fireballs. In the game you would have to summon a undead army uh because... because zombies you know, don't have brains and the mind flayer likes brains..." Dustin explained realising how stupid he sounded "it's just a game" "What the hell are we doing here?" Hopper exclaimed, tired of hearing Dustin explain a kids game to him. "I thought we were waiting for your military back up!" Dustin shouted "We are!" Hopper shouted back "Even if we are how are they going to stop this? You can't just shoot it with guns" Mike explained "You don't know that! We don't know anything" Hopper replied getting more frustrated by the second "We know it's already killed everybody in that lab" Mike snapped "And we know the monsters are going to molt again" Lucas added "And we know it's only a matter of time before those tunnels reach this town" Violet sighed. "They're right" a new voice that belonged to the shaken Joyce Byers said "we have to kill it, I want to kill it" "Me too" Hopper said walking towards the woman he loved "me too Joyce okay? But how do we do that? We don't exactly know what we are dealing with here" "No... but he does" Mike said causing everyone to turn and look at the drugged Will. "If anyone knows how to destroy this thing it's Will. He's connected to it. He'll know its weaknesses" "I thought you said we couldn't trust him anymore, that he was a spy for the mind flayer now" Max stated "Yeah but he can't spy if he doesn't know where he is"
