"God has a smile on His face." ~Psalm 42:5

On Saturday the 26th Of June, I'm woken up to the sound of my family singing a very off key version of happy birthday.

"Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday dear Keziahhhh

Happy birthday to you!"

"Ugh, please stop. My ears can't take it anymore." I groan out.

Nolan jumps onto my bed and smothers my face in kisses while Omari gives me a hug.

"Happy birthday honey!" My mum exclaims with joy. "Now get dressed, breakfast is downstairs."

I get out of bed with more pep in my step than usual and bound into the bathroom.

After scrubbing my body clean, I put on a blue denim skirt with a red ribbed top. Before putting on make up and jewellery for the day, I head down for breakfast where everyone else is already waiting.

On the dining table are stacks of chocolate chip and blueberry pancakes which are both my favourite breakfast option. Along with that are bowls of fruit and waffles with whipped cream. My parents love to go all out for each and every one of our birthdays as they believe that every year is another worth celebrating.

"Thanks mum, dad. This looks great."

"I helped too!" Shouts Nolan.

"Thank you as well then Nolan."

He beams at my appreciation and digs into his food like the rest of us.

"What's the plan for today then?" I ask them.

"Well,I think we should all go shopping for some new clothes for you how does that sound?" My mum suggests.

The chance to get as much as I want? Heck yeah.

"Um amazing! Free clothes is always a win in my book." I say with a smile.

"Do I have to come?" Marcel asks. "Shopping with Keziah takes forever and it's boring."

"Yes Marcel, this is a family outing." My dad responds sternly. He then leans towards Marcel and speaks, "But we can sneak off to the food court when they're not looking." He attempts to whisper.

Marcel sniggers and nods.

"I heard that!" My mother and I yell at the same time before chuckling.

"I think you were supposed too." Marcel states the obvious.

"Well duh." I say while crossing my eyes at him.

After we've all finished eating, I head back upstairs to finish getting ready. I apply my usual make up and put on all my jewellery. My fingers play with the bracelet Abel got me for Christmas and thinking about the meaning of each charm makes me smile.

Just as I'm thinking of him, a text pings on my phone.

My Abel: Happy birthday baby. Have a great day and I'll see you later. I love you. X

I bite my bottom lip to stop the huge smile that's about to takeover my face because I'm sure I'd look stupid smiling to myself in my room.

But Abel makes me feel so loved. Not that my parents don't but it's different with him.

He makes me feel adored, like I'm the only one that matters to him. He looks at me like there's no one else in the room and although it makes my heart beat rapidly, I love it a lot. He also drives me crazy too and even though I act like it annoys me, it makes me feel special. The fact that he's doing and acting this way only to me.

It's something I didn't think I'd get at this young of an age but I can't deny how happy it makes me. He's my world. I guess it could be foolish to place someone so highly in your life but Abel worked his way in and I'll be damned if I let him and this feeling go. Not everyone is as lucky.

"Keziah!" My dad yells. "Are you coming or not!"

"Yeah!"

"Can we go home now mummy! I'm bored!" Nolan crosses his little arms and stomps his feet.

"Me too Nolan. At least now you know to never go shopping with a girl." Marcel shakes his head .

"Yeah I won't ever. Not even with Tatiana and she's my friend!"

My mum and I laugh a little at this thinking how untrue that is.

I look over at Omari to find him texting on his phone. I take a peek over his shoulder and realise that it's Zane, "Geez you two talk more than girls."

Omari just rolls his eyes.

"Anyway, just one more shop and then we can go home I promise." I plead at them with wide eyes.

All four guys groan while my mum links her arm with mine and walks with me into Bershka.

"How about this?" My mum asks while picking up a dark brown suede skirt.

"I don't really like that mum." I reply.

She continues to pick up some questionable clothing clearly not understanding what I like and what I don't. After all these years too.

I go and pick up a cargo play suit with a black belt, a white windbreaker jacket, a pair of dark blue denim jeans, a sweater, a beige skirt and some loose trousers. Although it's still summer, I bought a few items for winter since it's best to be prepared.

English weather is so unpredictable; it could change at any point.

When we've paid, we both walk out of the shop to find the rest of the family sulking while seated on a bench.

"Finally!" Marcel jumps up and shouts.

"Don't be dramatic, we weren't in there long." I say while rolling my eyes.

"Actually Keziah, you were in there for an hour."

I check my phone and realise that he's right, "Oh."

"Yeah, Oh." He replies in frustration.

"Don't worry, we're leaving now." Says my mum.

"Thank goodness." Omari says while still texting on his phone.

As we head back to the car, I decide to question Marcel about Tenaya.

"Marcel, I saw you and Tenaya at the drive in theatre the other day." I jump straight to the point to see if I can catch him off guard.

His eyes widen slightly at my comment before he returns to normal and shrugs nonchalantly, "Yeah, she's my girlfriend now."

My eyes almost bug out my head, "Girlfriend!" I shriek.

Several people turn to look at me but I pay them no mind as I focus only on Marcel.

"Yeah."

"I mean finally but when did this happen and how come you didn't tell me!"

"You didn't exactly tell me when you and Abel started going out. I was gonna tell you eventually anyway, it's not a big deal."

I frown slightly at this thinking about how he's actually right. We both don't tell each other everything anymore, not like before but I think it's because we're simply finding our own way. He'll always be one of the people I go too when I need it; I don't think we'll stop being close.

"Fine fine but tell me this. Did Rolo know?"

"Yup."

"He's gonna pay for keeping that to himself."

Marcel snorts, "Take that up with him, not me."

"Oh I will."
