I had the headphone set clamped tightly onto my ears on the highest possible volume so I didn't have to hear Nico and Vivian giggling and talking by his car that was to the left of me. He was saying things he used to say to me, kissing her nose lightly like he used to when the dawn first broke through our curtains. I sighed and clicked the button that radioed me through to Lewis,
"Great job Lew, great times; much better than Nico... keep up the great work." I shot a glance to my side and flashed a snarky grin at the couple who were both shooting glares in my direction but turned my view back to the monitor.
"My my, let's keep it professional okay y/n? Trust me, I hate you ex-boyfriend as much as you do!" Lewis replied with a loud laugh.
I smiled at his comment and slid the headset off as I made my way to go and grab one of the water bottles that was at the back of the garage but was brought to a sharp halt when Vivian stuck out a rather brightly dawned heeled foot in my way,
"Yes?" I mused,
"You need to get over yourself sweetheart, you were in my position but now look at you, just the other drivers radio person, the worker for the driver that clearly isn't going to win."
Nico shuffled nervously by her side and looked around with pleading eyes and red flushed embarrassment.
"Okay A: your boyfriend is embarrassed of you, B: I would prefer to radio for a driver that wins on pure talent and skill rather than luck and C... just shut up!" clasped my hands together and made my way to the back of the garage but quickly turned around when I heard Nico stifle a laugh at my comment.
Vivian huffed, swooped her bag up and stormed out of the garage. I sighed and made my way through the garage in the search for fresh air.
I breathed deeply but rolled my eyes as the timid voice of Nico met my eyes,
"Hey y/n... will you let me talk?"
I nooded and he continued,
"Vivian was what you would call a re-bound, a distraction. How was I supposed to cope every race weekend when I was surrounded by your smile, laugh... you?"
He said earnestly, a little hint of pleading was seeping into his voice yet he carried on talking to me, taking a step closer,
"And hearing you on the radio to Lewis is soul destroying- that should be my radio... don't you know I miss you!"
"It's a shame Nico, it truly is a shame that you miss me, because I missed you once as well, and I spent a very long time wondering what I had done wrong when you walked out on me and it broke me to see you come swanning in with Vivian. So I'm sorry if you miss me, or it hurts you to see me having an actual friend in Lewis but you broke me. I did miss you... but not anymore."
With that I walked past him and back into the garage where Lewis was waiting for me. I told him all that happened and he consoled me and gave Nico a few harsh glares when he finally re-appeared.

The season ended with Nico winning... and also retiring (luckily for me) but everybody else on that grid and team knew that Lewis was the true winner, yet, I also won in a way.
I could now get on with my job in peace without the hassle of Nico lurking and I gained a friend. Lewis and I grew close and I couldn't do anything without him, so I won a friend... a friend who was my ex's enemy which was just slightly satisfying...
