Zak and I had engaged in a lengthy conversation for a couple of hours regarding our connections with this Demon. It was difficult to immediately go back to sleep afterward, so we decided to stay awake. The bond that was developing between us felt extraordinary. I never anticipated meeting someone who had encountered experiences similar to mine, or who had navigated through the unsettling aspects of life that can disrupt our sense of normalcy.

In an attempt to clear our minds from the weight of our discussion, I suggested that we embark on a sunrise hike in the mountains together. Walking in silence, we immersed ourselves in the embrace of nature. It was as if our souls were intertwining on a profound level, perhaps explaining the inexplicable strength of our connection; a familiarity that extended beyond the surface.

With each radiant smile he bestowed upon me, I found myself delving deeper into Zak's essence. His eyes illuminated, and his masculine façade melted away, revealing a playful and tender facet of his being. He wore a dark grey hat with a black rim, which only seemed to enhance the depth of his grey eyes. His brightness and happiness were infectious, compelling me to reciprocate his smile. We settled amidst the forest's undergrowth, wrapped in my blanket, engaging in heartfelt conversations about life. Our journey continued as we drove to a nearby diner for breakfast.

Stepping into the bustling diner filled with early risers, the air was saturated with the scent of maple syrup, a delightful fragrance that harmonized with the crisp fall morning. Our cheeks bore a rosy hue from the chilly air outside, making the transition into the warm diner all the more comforting.

Our hearty breakfast was consumed with gusto, leaving us fully satisfied. As we prepared to depart and return to my place, fate introduced us to an unexpected encounter.

"June," Andrew exclaimed. I glanced at Zak, attempting to disregard Andrew's presence. Zak's gaze shifted from Andrew to me, awaiting my lead.

"Hi, Andrew," I acknowledged, my attention still somewhat diverted. Smiling up at Zak, I introduced him, "This is Zak, he's visiting me," swiftly placing my arm around Zak.

"Nice to meet you, man," Zak extended his hand.

"Yeah," Andrew replied, pointedly ignoring Zak's gesture. I felt a surge of frustration at his dismissive behavior.

"We were about to head out for breakfast," I interjected, guiding Zak past Andrew.

"Could we talk later?" Andrew attempted to detain me.

"I have company right now, so it's not a good time," I responded while continuing to move away, my focus on escaping the situation.

"How about later?" Andrew persisted.

"Goodbye, Andrew," I declared, pushing open the door and stepping outside. Zak's grip on my hand tightened, offering a reassuring display of support.

My pace quickened as we approached my car, eager to distance myself from the encounter. Zak wordlessly retrieved the car keys, his expression a mixture of understanding and concern. Surrendering the keys to Zak, I allowed him to take the wheel, recognizing my own flustered state and the need for a calming influence.

Zak's voice softened as he inquired, his hand resting on my lap, "Who was that?"

"He's an ex," I admitted, bracing myself for the ensuing conversation.

"Do you communicate with him often?" Zak's inquiry held a genuine curiosity rather than jealousy, demonstrating his perceptive nature.

"I hadn't spoken to him for years until the other night," I confessed.
