Zola's POV
It's been 5 weeks since I found out, 3 of which were spent on winter break. The other two I've been trying to avoid Sofia for, and I haven't talked to her yet. It's not fair to her though, and certainly not to me. I need someone to freak out with.
"Sofia!" I shout down the hall to my my best friend.
"Hey. How are you? Did you find out why you were sick?"
"Yeah-" i try to say.
"Is it a bug? The flu? An infectious disease?
"I'm pregnant."
"What? What did your mom say? And Andrew? Did they totally flip out?"
"No, they were really understanding. Pissed, but still."
"Well, are you gonna... keep it?"
"I don't know yet."
But I do. This is my baby, and I'm not giving it up. I've never felt abandoned by my birth parents, I've always had my mom. But just because I got lucky doesn't mean I want to leave it at chance that my baby is stuck in the system, bounced around foster homes like Aunt Jo.
"Who's is it?"
"Micheal Treys."
"The Michael Treys? He's like, the most popular guy in our grade. Are you gonna tell him?"
"No."
"Zo, you have to!"
"Sophia, will you stop! Just shut up!"
She looked hurt, and I couldn't believe I said that.
"Sof, I'm sorry, this whole thing is just..."
"I get it. It's ok."
"Your mom is doing the ultrasound today. Want to come?"
"It's okay, I have some stuff to do."
She walks to class and I stay behind, trying to catch my balance. Then micheal comes up from behind me. Oh god.
"Hey. I haven't seen much of you since the party."
"Yeah, I've been... busy."
"Maybe you want to hand out later?"
"Oh, I have a thing."
"What kind of thing?"
What am I supposed to say to that? Oh, just getting an ultrasound to see your baby. No biggie. Just play it down.
"Just an appointment."
"All right, I should get to class. Good luck with your thing!"
I should tell him. He deserves at least that.
