Ch.30
'What the hell was I thinking?' Bruno Costa asked himself, as he found himself standing in front of a large home, waiting to be escorted in.
Thinking back till now, he was so sure that he was ready to face the nightmare, that he long since ran from. But the second he stepped foot into the pack territory, he began to rethink his decision, seconding guess his decision to even be there. But it was too late now. He had decided to tag along for good reason, and the only thing that would get him though this moment, was if he stayed focus and remembered what those reasons were.
He had to stay strong.
And he had to bite the bullet.
Taking in a deep breath, as he saw a large figure step out of the home and began to make his way towards the large group that Bruno had stood with, he braced himself for what was to come. 'Today's going to be a long day.' He told himself, as his dark eyes took in the approaching figure.
Dressed in a dark suit, and set with a serious face, that barreled through the crowd, commanding their attention, the man took in everyone in a silent motion. And when his eyes reached Bruno, Bruno could have sworn that a shadow of annoyance played out on the other man's face, before he quickly passed his eyes along to the next person's face.
Taking in a deep breath once more, Bruno quickly began to feel bothered by the lack of attention, he was just given.
Not expecting to feel anything by reluctance and anger towards the other man, he quickly took control over himself, catching an aggravated growled, that wanted to leave his lips.
"You okay?" He heard a deep voice ask from the side of him. Turning to his left, Bruno quickly found his eyes placed, on an observant Derek, who had been watching him from the time they left their own pack up 'til now. To him, Bruno had been one of his oldest friends in the world, and he had every right to feel concern when it came to him, especially in this situation.
"I'm fine." Bruno responded in a clipped tone, as his dark eyes, haunted after the empowered Alpha, that had disregarded him within seconds of seeing him
"You sure?" Derek asked, knowing how severe things were between the two males.
"Yep." Bruno stated in a short tone as he continued to look after the alpha.
Taking in a deep breath, and thought, for the second time 'What the hell was I thinking?'
In all honesty, he was mentally slapping himself for even being there, but the second he heard about the attack that happened to the Montana pack, and the moment he heard that Holland needed all hands on deck while Camryn was still out of town, he knew he had to do something. He wasn't just going to sit around doing nothing while his cousin was missing, and Sage was losing her mind from worrying. Then he heard about Derek leading the team to met with Frost's pack, and he knew he couldn't just stand around and let everyone else pitch in.
He was needed, especially when Derek was involved with heading out the team to meet up with Robert Frost's pack. He didn't trust Frost at all, so letting Derek walk into his territory alone, was not something he was going to allow. He already had an Alpha who he once called a friend, hating him because of Frost, he didn't need Yelena added on the list. And from where he was standing, a pissed off Yelena was a far more dangerous and scarier to face than an enraged Alpha.
So at his first chance to approach Holland on the matter, he demanded to tag along to make sure that things went according to plan. Without putting up much fight, Holland allowed him to come, figuring the same thing that he had, which was that if things took a turn for the worst that he'd have Frost's ear.
But only after a brief encounter with the man, Bruno knew that he just wanted this to all be over, so he could go back to his life.
If there was one thing that he had come to conclude over the years was that, Rogue life, or the life of a lone wolf, had its perks. Not needing to deal with the drama of running with packs, or taking command was a plus, then there was the fact that he didn't have to contend to the fact that his wolf had fallen under the spell of Frost's wolf, and that he didn't have to worry about being the cursed mate of the awful Alpha.
He liked the fact that for the past seven years, all he had to do was focus on his studies, party during his free time, take care of Sage, and sleep with whomever he damned well please, and not worry about the consequences of hurting his mate, who nearly ruined his life.
Now, like an avalanche, everything just came crashing down at the mere sight of him.
Taking the time to remind himself that Robert Frost was not the goal, Bruno paced himself, and tried to take control over his spiraling emotions, as the vexatious Alpha began to speak.
"I know we all have other things that we'd much more rather be contending with, so this won't take long. I know you all think that with a simple phone call, things could have easily been explained, but as it turns out things are not that simple." Robert Frost spoke in a low yet powerful tone that caught the attention of all of the lower ranking wolves before him. "I believe that you need to see what you're dealing with in ordering to understand just how these wolves work."
"Well, if there is one thing I know, it's that they can't be as bad as you, now can they Frost?" One wolf spoke from the group with venom filling his voice.
Turning his eyes over to the wolf that had called the Alpha out, Bruno's eyes fell on a female wolf who stood tall and unafraid of what the Alpha would do to her because of boldness. She was tall and beautiful with bright red hair, and fierce blue eyes that sat aimed on Frost as he stood taking her in with a less than bothered expression on his face. To Bruno, it seemed as if the other man was bored; like he'd heard it all before and was just plain over whatever people thought of him, which in his case he probably was.
Not knowing rather to be shocked in his thinking that the Alpha would act as the narcissi that he was and lash out at the woman, Bruno found it kind of appealing the way Frost brushed off the comment, and the way the she had spoken to him.
"As I was saying, you'll need to focus on what you se-"
"Did you think that we'd just forget about what you did!" The redheaded woman spoke out again, this time earning a small scowl from the Alpha, as it took everything in him not to snap. "Did you think that we'd forget about how you kidnapped our Luna and held her hostage?! Did you think that we'd just let it go?"
Watching it closely, Bruno instantly knew the signs of when the Alpha had broken and was going to go for the kill. He watched as the color in his eyes, only darken and as his neutral features in his face shifted into something terrifying. He heard the growl from where he stood, and as if on instinct, his foot started to move forward the second he heard the growl release from Frost's mouth.
"What I think," Frost growled as he shifted his weight and growled in a threatening manner, as he pushed himself forward, seemingly losing control over his emotions and going for the kill, "is that you need to learn some respect!"
Before he could reach the woman, he looked ready for the fight, Bruno slid in between the two, placing a somewhat calming hand on Frost's chest, as he turned his attention to the redhead, just as Derek and the others braced themselves, for anything to jump off.
