"Do you guys think we'll still be friends when we're older?"

"Why wouldn't we?"

~

SEPTEMBER, 1994.

"Mom, I gotta go!" A young woman told her mom as her mom had been holding her in a bear hug for about five minutes.

"You're already in high school, you grew up so fast!" Her mom ranted.

"Jesus, mom! I'm not that old for you to latch onto me as if I was dying!" The daughter ran to the front door, grabbing toast on the way out.

"Remember to behave!" Her mom yelled as her daughter had already sprinted out of the door.

As if she would.

I was driving to school with my bike, enjoying the shitty view in my neighbourhood. I looked at my wristwatch, '7:57 AM' it read.

I remembered the toast I had taken with me, so I grabbed it out of my backpack and began munching on it. The toast tasted like ashes. It was quite burnt, because my mom made it in a rush, but at least now she cared about me getting fed.

I tried to silence the million thoughts that were running through my head, because it was causing a minor headache. I sighed at the thought of school again. My thoughts kept me so distracted, that I didn't even realize I had arrived at school.

I snapped out of my day dreams and went to put my bike down by the stands. Before I could do that, a voice called me from behind.

"Hey, hotstuff!" A familiar voice exclaimed and I turned around to see Richie, the famous trashmouth.

"Hey, nerd!" I greeted him and ruffled his hair.

"Hey, hey! Don't touch my coiffure (hairstyle/hairdo/haircut in French)! It took me exactly four hours of drooling on my pillow to make it the way it is!" He groaned and tried to fix his hair. I laughed at his antics.

"Where were you the whole summer? You didn't even answer my calls!" Richie put his hand over his heart, pretending to be offended.

"I was busy fucking your mom." I said with a serious face, but we both bursted out laughing.

"You know, your humour's getting better and better. You know what else is getting better? Your ass- OW, OKAY, OKAY! I'LL STOP!" Richie yelled out in pain as someone harshly smacked him across the head. It was Greta.

"Get the fuck away from my friend, you weirdo!" Greta warned him and I grimaced.

"...or what are you going to do, short ass?" Richie towered over Greta.

"Anyway, bye trashmouth!" I said, ushering Richie away, trying to avoid an argument. Greta gave me a look when Richie had left us alone.

"I thought you told me you stopped being friends with them?" Greta asked me.

"Yeah, the fucker clearly didn't get the message." I lied.

"You should report him to the teacher, if he keeps bothering you or I could call my friends and we'd deal with him." Greta offered.

"No, Greta, there has been enough drama as it is. Just drop the subject." I told her.

"Alright, don't blame me if the bastard's going to harass you." Greta rolled her eyes and walked off to school. I laughed to myself and finally put my bike at the stand.

"Y/N, you're late to the first day...again!" The teacher yelled.

"Really? I didn't notice." I told her in a slightly higher voice to indicate sarcasm.

"I'm starting to think you're more problematic than Bowers." The teacher muttered to herself.

"Yeah, no. That fucker was too dumb for sarcasm." I replied and sat down in an empty seat near the back, where nobody would bother me. The teacher did not respond to my comment, knowing all too well that I was correct.

I sighed, looking out of the window like I always do, zoning out of the conversation between the teacher and the students. My thoughts immediately went to the upcoming exams. I was now in the high school status, so they're obviously going to be harder and my dumbass hardly passed last year. I was quite stressed out.

"Y/N, are you even listening?" The teacher asked, her voice sounding like she had gave up on life.

"What..? Uh, yes-"

"As I was saying, we have a new student and I'd like for you all to nicely greet her." The teacher spoke when I had finally focused on the conversation.

A girl, who I hadn't noticed, with platinum blonde, wavy hair stood up and went to the front of the class. She had an anxious face expression and I guessed that it was probably because she had stage fright like most of the people here.

"Tell us your name, sweetie." The teacher told her, trying to calm her down.

"I'm Alyssa and I moved here from Pennsylvania." The girl spoke with a quiet and shaky voice.

"Well, Alyssa, I'll hope you have a great time here at Derry with your classmates. You can sit down beside Y/N at the back." The teacher said and I inwardly groaned. Adios to sitting alone this year.

Alyssa cautiously sat down next to me, probably thinking I was troublesome at my outburst at the start of the day. I ignored her, looking out of the window again.

"You're Y/N, right?" She whispered to me as the teacher kept speaking with the class, I turned to her and raised an eyebrow at her.

"Yeah, didn't you hear the teacher?" I asked, trying hard not to be rude.

"Oh, uh...yeah, sorry." She muttered. I guessed she was awkward at socialization with new people.

I ignored her for the rest of the teacher's lecture, but I caught her sneaking glances at me. I looked at her occasionally too, but it was because her blonde hair was distracting. It was like that until the teacher decided to show us to the cabinets of where the new added lessons (and moved cabinets for lessons) would be. She didn't look at me more after that.

As we were walking around, a part of us had to split up, since we had a mixed schedule and both parts have to be with a different class. I noticed that Richie and I were going to have French together since we both chose that instead of Spanish.

Richie noticed me as we were walking to the cabinet, where we were going to have French and he waved at me with a goofy smile on his face. I waved and smiled back at him. Thankfully, Greta was not in any of our classes, because she was two grades higher (God knows, what she did to get there, since her grades were pretty low).

As we had finally toured all of the cabinets, the teacher let us off for the day. It was only around 11 AM, so I had almost the whole day to myself before my parents arrived home from work. I rushed out of the school, took my bike and drove home.

Holy shit, I'm so excited for this book and I hope you'll enjoy it. I think I'm going to write around 25-30 chapters, because I want it to be a slowburn.
