Finn reluctantly walked past Poe's door without a knock. Something definitely happened last night that set him off but he wasn't sure what. Maybe he being oblivious to what he did or maybe he was overthinking it.
He sighed and went down to the truck with his equipment to start the first half of the photoshoot he had today at the park. He wasn't necessarily in the greatest mood today but shooting usually brought his spirits back up.
Finn liked being a photographer, it was something he enjoyed and practiced a lot. He bought his first camera at the age of 16 and started doing photoshoots at 18. He had a knack for it apparently and it brought in a decent amount of money. Eventually, he wanted to have his very own studio just for shoots and get more recognition.
He sat on a nearby bench at the park adjusting the camera settings and putting on a proper lens when a blue car rolled up behind his truck and parked there.
A pretty Asian girl about his age stepped out of the car with a grey blouse and jeans that were very flattering on her. She pushed the pair of sunglasses up from her nose to the crown of her head and smiled.
"You must be Finn," she said as she walked over to him.
He nodded and extended a hand, "Yes, I am. And you've got to be Ms. Sun."
She shook his hand and laughed, "Please, call me Lily, I'll sound like my mother if you call me that."
Finn gave her a warm laugh and continued with the process of shooting. He loved watched the way the sun lit up a person's face and how they soaked up the warmth. The day was gorgeous and perfect for outdoor photography. It was days like this that made him want to lay down and just feel the earth under him.
After they finished, they met back at his studio so she could get a few portraits done on a blank canvas. He had learned she was turning twenty one and graduating and her family and friends were throwing her a big bash to celebrate both events. Lily was kind and there type of person who lit up a room when she walked in. It was nice to feel like that after having a confusing last night.
After setting up properly, Lily took a seat on the stool placed in front of the backdrop and smiled. Finn aimed the camera in the proper direction and nodded as he got a few portraits.
He threw confetti at her as she laughed and they began to laugh even harder when she nearly fell off the stool.
"These turned out so good, Finn," she exclaimed as she looked over his shoulder into the camera.
He turned back to face her and smiled, "I really like these too, do you mind if I use one for my portfolio?"
"Of course not," she grinned and stood back placing her hands on her hips. "Well I suppose we're finished here," she said tilting her head and brushing her hair behind her ear.
Finn looked up from his camera. "Oh, yeah, let me just give you my card for future reference, just in case," he said as he walked to the small box by the door and grabbed a card to hand to her.
Lily took it and opened the door but extended her hand out to Finn for a handshake. While he grabbed it she laughed, "Who am I kidding," and pulled him in for a hug. "Thank you! I can't wait to get them!"
Finn smiled at her excitement, "Of course, I hope your party goes great."
Lily took a step towards the door and looked over her shoulder, "We could get a cup of coffee sometime."
Finn was taken back by the offer. No one ever asked him to do anything other than take pictures, let alone ask him to hang out after. "That sounds great," he said with a proud grin.
Lily showed the card between her fingers. "Well I have your number, Finn." And with that, she walked away.
Left in the doorway was Poe standing who had just witnessed Finn getting asked out.
He wasn't surprised. Finn had that type of energy that when people meet him they immediately like him. It happened to him. Now the girl. He had just thought that maybe-
"Hey Poe."
He zoned back in and looked across the hall at Finn who still had a faint curve to his mouth. Of course he was happy, she was pretty for him. "Hey."
They- once again- stood in silence looking at each other. Not thinking about anything in particular, but thinking of everything that created that space between them. It was a different type of tension this time, one that neither of them would dare acknowledge.
"I need my car and well, I kinda need you to take me," Poe said shuffling his feet. He had been home all day taking care of himself and sketching things he noticed. A bird on the windowsill, the messy bed, his calloused hand. It was peaceful being alone but he needed to get out and be somewhere. Take a drive.
He almost had thought about pulling out that case again. It'd been a while since he last used that old thing. He loved it more than imaginable but he felt he didn't deserved it after he left.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I forgot. Of course," Finn said rubbing his face sheepishly. He didn't even think about it.
Poe drew a long breath, "Its okay, you had quite a busy day. I forgot that you had a photoshoot today. Seemed like it went pretty well for you though."
"Yeah, it actually went really good."
"That's nice."
"Yeah."
Poe turned back to grab a coat off his table and threw it on before him and Finn began to walk to his truck.
"I didn't realize you were wearing my jacket still," Poe trailed off. He had noticed he was wearing it. It was the first thing he saw other than the grin on Finn's face.
"Of course," Finn said with that smile Poe oh so liked. "You gave it to me."
