Poe made it to the restaurant a little faster than Finn so he waited at the entrance for him. He couldn't stop smiling when his truck pulled up and Finn walked out sharing the same smile Poe wore.
Even though Poe was disappointed at the whole song situation, he couldn't help but grin at the guy. Maybe they'd be able to talk about things tonight and if not, he'd gladly settle for waiting and spending more time with him.
They'd gotten to know each other so well over the past months. Of course they knew their basic habits and favorites and little quirks but they also began learning each other from within. Over time, their fears and flaws became outstandingly present to one another but they figured it out, they always did.
"Good evening sir, may I accompany you on this fine afternoon," Poe said in a terrible English accent with his chest puffed out and arm bend in front of him.
Finn tried his best to hide his smile as he rolled his eyes. "Come on you idiot I'm hungry," he laughed as he hooked his elbow around Poe's and pulled him into the doorway to get a seat.
The wait wasn't long, only ten minutes at the most but Finn complained about his growling stomach the entire time.
"I think I'm dying- No really Poe- I'm starving to death here," Finn whined while knocking his head on Poe's bicep.
Poe looked down at his newspaper effectively ignoring the man-child then saying sarcastically, "Yes dear."
"Hey! Don't sarcastically 'yes dear' me. I'm just really really hungry," Finn drawled with a frown and his best puppy eyes.
Flipping the newspaper down for a second to look at Finn, Poe sighed and stood up to talk to the waitress while Finn sat straight up excited the whole time.
Poe looked back at him and nodded his head to tell him to get-your-annoying-ass-over-here and Finn did.
"Thanks dear," Finn grinned as they followed the waitress to their table. "You're the best."
Poe gently hooked their elbows together as discreetly as possible so they wouldn't get too many glances as they took their seats. "Yeah yeah I know. You're such a baby."
"Your baby," Finn winked as he took the booth across from Poe who just slapped his forehead in defeat.
The waitress cleared her throat. "Drinks?" she asked slightly annoyed by the two very gay babbling men she had to tend to this afternoon.
"Two waters with lemon," they both chimed in unison just to look back at each other with an amused grin.
"Four waters?" the waitress, Peggy, asked.
Poe laughed, "No no I'm sorry we just said it at the same time. Just two waters for the table."
"Uh huh," she grumbled and walked off to the back to, hopefully, get their drinks.
Finn scoffed, "Somebody's not gonna get a very nice tip today."
"Probably cause she heard you whining from across the restaurant," Poe said taking off his coat and laying it next to him.
"Yeah whatever," Finn sighed. He was starting to get tired; he hadn't eaten since this morning.
Poe raised a brow concerned at his friends sudden state. "What's wrong with you?"
Finn squinted his face, "What'd you mean what's wrong with me? I'm exhausted and starving."
Taking a glance through the menu, Poe nodded, "I know, you wouldn't shut up about it."
Finn sat back and slumped at his attitude. He was starting to get irritated by him but he tried his best not to start anything and hope the rest of the evening would run smoothly.
When the waitress came back with their drinks, she impatiently asked what they wanted to order.
Poe snorted, "Give him anything, please, for my sake."
"I'll take the prime rib," Finn said through clenched teeth. He really just wanted a nice quiet dinner.
"And I'll get the same," Poe added and as the lady walked away he twirled his spoon through his fingers and tapped it on the table to make a basic rhythm.
Finn sighed deeply and popped his fingers. "Can you please stop that racket. It's getting annoying."
"My apologies, your highness-"
"Why, Poe, just say okay and stop," Finn scolded as he leaned his head on his hands. A headache was starting to get the best of him and noise was making it worse.
Poe placed his silverware down and drank the rest of his water down which made a slurping sound that, yes, irritated Finn even more.
"Dude are you kidding me? Just stop making noise it's not that hard," Finn raised his voice and a few heads turned their way.
Poe flinched at his voice and his face went cold. "You're really gonna yell at me in public?" he remarked.
"Well if you would shut up I wouldn't have to," Finn snapped.
When he looked up at Poe's distraught face, he immediately regretted his comment. "Poe... I-"
"It's fine," he murmured. He looked over his side and saw a table of men staring at them with condemning faces. "Oh mind your own business will you?" he spat.
One of the men started to stand up but another put his hand in front of him and talked lowly to him as they both glanced sideways at Poe.
Finn reached over the table. "Poe," he whispered. "Just focus over here, okay?"
Poe narrowed his eyes at Finn. "Oh so now you're fine. What? Cause you're embarrassed of me, right," he scoffed.
"No of course I'm not embarrassed of you. I just don't want us to get into any unwanted trouble. Please," Finn begged.
Poe leaned back in the booth and folded his arm but not before shooting a glare at the table- which wasn't the best idea. "Fine."
The rest of dinner was silent. They both stood after they were finished to walk to the front of the restaurant. There was something that felt off though, and it wasn't the way the two of them were acting.
After they exited the building, they both looked at each other.
"I'm sorry-" Poe started.
"I'll meet you at the apartment," Finn interrupted without realizing what Poe was about to say.
Poe nodded with a frown and began to walk off. He was halfway to his car when he heard a yell.
"Poe!"
He turned to see two men holding Finn by his arms and dragging him into an alleyway with another two headed towards him.
"Run! Leave!" Finn hollered before one of the men kicked his side to silence him.
Without any hesitation, Poe ran straight through the men and tried his best to get to Finn but the men held him back. "Finn! No please-" he grunted as a guy punched his side making him lurch forward and lose his balance.
"Poe I-"
Finn's voice was cut off by a throaty cry in pain. And the familiar sound of punches and kicks that Poe knew by heart replaced the silence.
